RopeTek Helmet Intercom System

Regarding the mic.

My guy cant hear me when the mic isnt close to my face. So not sure having it on the visor would work.

The 10r functions well but the battery life is greatly reduced from the regular 10.
Im working on a fix for that

Sena says the 10R has 8 hours of talk time vs. 12 hrs with the 10. Is this accurate. The 10R has a separate battery that can easily be swapped; spares are $30. This seems like it might be an added benefit? Any word on when these will be available from Rope-Tek?

Once again, the Sena system rocks. I was able to jam to music while finishing up at a jobsite solo, raking, chunking up the stump and hauling, blowing, answering the phone in the middle of it (no phone access needed, just tap the big button) to confirm sale of the wood from the job, etc, etc.

My new phone will be voice activated, so no need to get gloves off to use it for placing outgoing calls (don't know how the music will work). Probably could just keep it in my chest pocket.

I just put this charging station together and it works great. We put our hats on it after work and plug them in to the power strip. The timer kicks in at 4:30am giving us a full charge at 7am when we get there. I have two of the original units and one 10r (soon to be two), as well as the head set for a crane operator and they all get a full zap. No more charging in the truck. Everything is ready to go and lasts all day.

Amazing piece of equipment. On the "couldn't live without" list.

Wondering if Mr. Cox has thought anymore about a remote bypass grapple for his/our boom cranes he mentioned to me on the phone...at a reasonable price...ofcourse?

The new 20s version has an app to help organize your groups and program all the settings using your smartphone. I work with as a contract climber with a few different companies on the Smh-10 system and it takes some patience to sync up, although it always works eventually. It would be nice to just set up these groups for flawless coordination. Anybody have any info or input regarding the 20s?

do you guys know you can get on Amazon and buy the communications system for $89 per helmet and install them yourself on your existing helmet getting there now come on up how much was it dude $50 it is super easy to do and will save you about 250 bucks

Has anyone had trouble linking 4? I'll do it as the book says (and instructed by treestuff) and one always comes out not connecting. I'm not sure whats going wrong?

We've had good luck with four. But every once and a while the last headset added (#4) to the group will suddenly drop out and have to turn off and then turn the system back on, back in business. Weird.

That worked the first time, Set them up the night before needed. Unfortunately i wasn't the one using them, they came back saying one didn't work right. I tested it at the shop found out they were right. I relinked all 4 and it always happened that the C one wouldn't work (Linked D first down to A).

I set them up as follows D-C D-B D-A, C-B C-A, B-A. Anyone see the problem?

why on earth would you want 4 dudes mic ed? sounds like a cluster fuch. 3 is plenty imo. aren't you talking over each other all the time at key times?

Because a a four person crew simply needs to be in contact with one another. I was recently on a large removal project that involved two mic'd climbers and two mic'd ground workers. If the two groups of two were rigging pieces at the same time we all needed to ok the situation.
Countryboy, your sequence seems right. We've noticed that the one that gets dropped can link back in with two or three taps on the jog dial...

Berny clearly can't do math as it would be impossible to save $250 on something that costs $200- $230. Also, the cheapest I've seen the Sena comm units is about $150 apiece. Can you do it cheaper yourself? Yes. Is it worth the extra time? Not to me.
