RopeTek Helmet Intercom System

="wyoclimber, post: 406195, member: 6449"]Show me a link. And also realize that not all comm units are created equal. Tree Stuff uses the Sena SMH-10.
Regardless, you still can't save $250 on something that doesn't cost that much.
I would also point out that MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) on a single SMH-10 is $220. Does Tree Stuff make a profit? Of course. They are a business. They buy at wholesale and sell at MSRP. That's how things work.
Amazon on the other hand discounts so much that they consistently do not actually make a profit but they do so much volume that suckers keep investing in them anyway.[/QUOTE]
Thanks for the retail lessson. My original post was in regards to saving money for the tree guys.....I wasn't trying to debate companies making profit. Just helping those whose budgets may be tight. The 230 I was referring to was savings on the helmet as well!

I can see that the economics lesson will be lost on you.
As for a commission, I kind of do. It's the free stuff they put in every order and the 10% off every order. And the Arbor Trolley they gave away. And Jambo. Yeah. If they keep giving me all that, I'll keep plugging for them.

Does anyone have a photo of the Sena installed on a Protos helmet? I've seen it before but can;t find it now.
Also, is it better to side mount with the boom mike or rear mount and use the wired mike glued to the visor?
Thanks

I would like to chime in. I must have totally missed this and realize that the posts I am referencing are rather old. My posts that were quoted regarding how much I paid for SENA installs were on the set I bought from Paul as a private citizen, before I worked for TreeStuff.com.

When I took a job with TreeStuff one of the first things I did was push for mainstream adoption of this wonderful idea. A few points on that: 1st we worked with Paul to produce a quality integration with the best products. We pay Paul a royalty because we appreciate him bringing the idea to market, we arent required to do that. 2nd,We also had to get permission from KASK (the only helmet we installed on in the beginning) because we were drilling holes in the helmet. All this takes time, costs money and creates liability.

Further, we do warranty the units and provide a TON of end user support. If you dont understand what that means let me have someone call one of your employees and ask them incredibly technical questions each and every day, you will soon realize that costs a considerable amount of money.

More so, no one has a gun to anyones head telling them they have to buy anything from any specific source. I have LONG been an advocate of do it yourself type installation and fabrication. Please, feel free to live your own life.

LASTLY, I am proud to have been a part of advocating for safer workplaces, a higher level of on the job professionalism and what I hope is a meaningful contribution to Paul and his family.

Thanks for your support! (you know who you are)

I broke down and ordered a protos with com system. Just to take phone calls and listen to music for right now. Will probably buy some for the crew in the next weeks

Any body have trouble sending music to 3 helmets? What's the trick?
I've shared music from my phone to two other helmets before but I don't know it happened, no help sorry. I've also experienced intercom with four other units but we couldn't recreate that again.

I think it depends on how many devices you can run at the same time through your music platform. For instance if you Bluetooth pair for music only through your I phone, it should play to two headsets.

Music sharing:
Tap to connect then push and hold to start music. It's music or coms so you will need to tap to talk again.

Conference mode:
You will need to set them up in order A to B, B to C, and C to D as the first connections.
Then tap to connect:
B to A
C to B
D to C
It takes time to setup but is pretty easy to use after a couple days. I've connected a phone call to a second headset while skiing to mess with a friend.

I've been using sena products for 4 years now. Motorcycle, skiing, mt biking, and in the trees. I use smh-10 for the rage and features. The smh-5 works fine for my wife and can work with the smh-10 with reduced range. There are a lot of options out there including a FM radio version, longer range, slim version with no dial, cameras, and plenty of accessories.
Nice job Paul and Treestuff. Keep it up
Keep encouraging new products for the field

Mine have survived every fall. Conifers always have something right over your head. I've broken the mount on one. Had on speaker pin break, so only sound in one ear.

All and all, I'll never go back to doing treework without them. I now have some spare parts. Not a bad idea, IMO.

I forgot My helmet in another truck one day, and worked with the spare, and no comms = communication sucks.

I've dropped two, but not lost them permanently thank goodness. Seems like if you lose the unit, probably full replacement needed. That's where all the technology is.
I moved one set into my protos, the wires are protected inside , and even if we are not miced up as a crew, it's so great to climb, then touch down and get some music playing for cleanup. What a good tool
