The Stitch Hitch paired with the Wrench provides a very smooth and easy descent. The new, and completely original idea of running bungee through some metal tubes, that was added to the tether, keeps the Wrench well above the hitch.

Huh.
The bungee doesn't try to walk over the corner of the wrench where it pivots?
I like the idea of the spring there, I'm just not quite convinced that it doesn't need a prohibitive amount of babysitting.

I don’t know about your bungee, but mine has been trained not to. The cord that makes up the tether is small enough to leave some gaps for the two bungee cords to set in the grooves. Plus the short distance, and always being under tension, keeps them in place.

Derp. I didn't think about it being a long stretch. Of course it is under tension even when the wrench is fully engaged.
The space beside the tether also helps.

Been running the ISC short tether with the little rubber chingadera on the Wrench end removed, and it really makes the Wrench tend like a dream. You can see by the 1st pic that without the rubber piece there is basically zero bend in the rope during accent, which means near zero friction created during ascent! Freakin' love it!

I was thinking about doing the same thing but I don't know how to do it with the fix tether without fuckin up the shrink wrap.
Does it still engage itself when u stop ascending or do ya set it by hand?

It still bites perfectly when I stop and sit in my hitch. With a Michoacan it's one high performance setup!

I have been running a michoacan for a couple months on Kmiii max 11mm tied in 9.3 epicord. 4 over 1 configuration.
I liken it to a Maserati. It is very sporty and darty and it behaves like they should in theory.


I had a conversation with Jeff Inman today that was focused on the wrench itself changing the friction that it takes from your hitch based on the wear of the slic pin, and how detrimental that can be with a larger rope (to have a new, full diameter pin).

You need a well worn pin for anything over brand new 11.7.

Yeah I really like my wrench on velocity but I want something thicker for my hands so I think the next rope I try is going to be one of those Yale 11.7mm series ropes I see u using a lot...is there one in particular you recommend?

Yale bluemoon is solid and highly visable. Available at all arb suppliers. Great all round rope.

im about 160-165lbs, I run xstatic rope which is 11.7, and I have rope logic grizzly spliced bee line - 10mm, and run VT hitch.... I personally don't like it, I think the xstatic for my weight needs either a 9mm hitch cord or 8 mm hitch cord.... my hitchcord now is 28 or 30 inches i forget, but I think if i was able to get one more top wrap..... it would work great, but sometimes currently it doesn't lock up real good and I have to hand do it myself, or i'll start creeping which freaks me out.

Any recomendations on which hitchcord for x Static rope at 160-170 lbs is really where i fluctuate between

Try a diff knot? You're prob right that smaller dia hitch cord will help. I run 8mil beeline 3/3 VT on 11.7 without issue, but I buy bulk and use knots. It took a bit to get the perfect length and wraps.

Try a twist or two of the eyes before clipping to the carabiner, it sometimes can fine tune the gripping, when another wrap is too much.

I like to use 8 mm HRC on my 11.7...however it is not Xstatic which may have a tighter weave and more strands. I also found that the VT is better suited to Ddrt then with a wrench. I switched to a michoacan with the wrench and shortened my cord. Good luck...half the fun is in the experimentation. Happy climbing

The hitch works smooth, sets well and releases great also. The hitch stops performing well when it"s about time to replace.
