Rope Wrench Feedback?

Yeah but then I have to carry 2 wrenches with me all the time. Just more crap to carry in my gear bag. Not trying to be a jerk but for almost $200 should I have to break out a wrench before and after use each time? Seems to be a great gear item but it can't cause me any more time or money to use it on the job.

It can be made mid line attachable with a simple $20 mod. What are your two splices for? Be careful with the pin that your tether does not tangle in it.

or cut one of the splices off.I hardly ever take it off my rope.In fact I can disconnect it and let just kinda ride the rope and transfer over to ddrt.I have another rope set up with my hitchclimber(for ddrt) and leave the rope wrench set up always on the other line(for srt).

What's the mod? I have 2 slices so when I wear one end of the rope out or it gets gaffed, I flip the line and get use out of the other end. I tend to find the most wear in the top 50 feet of my 150' ropes. I also like to climb off a slice. Much faster attachment for re-crotching and such. Plus I climb on the anchor bridge and splice makes life easier.

Or buy a rope for srt with out splices and a have a rope for Drt with splices. I keep the splice on my rope almost for sentimental value. Although I just dinged my lanyard pretty good and that nice sliced side of my rope is looking awful tempting...

Ok thanks guys. Will get a pin but I won't cut off a splice. I need a 1 size fits all deal. I carry too much stuff to work as it is. I have no storage for gear except the chip box and never know what i'm gonna do until I get there. It just isn't practical to add another rope bag just for srt to the gear bag, boots for gaffs, lunch cooler, drink cooler, and my own 2 personal saws. If I can make it mid line attachable then it'll work.

Edit: Picture came out too large. If you want to post a picture directly rather than as an attachment do the url as this.

Here is a modification that I made to Kevin's idea for the use of a pin to make the Rope Wrench mid-line attachable because like previously mentioned, all my ropes have spliced eyes on both ends so set-up was difficult.

The pin idea works well but I didn't like the force of the rope on that smaller diameter pin. One idea would be to install a larger pin, however, one would have to drill out the shoulders to accommodate the larger diameter. Another idea I came up with was to machine a bushing to go over the pin that did two things, 1) it maintained the original diameter and 2) it created an even weight distribution or shear force across the entire diameter of the pin. The latter was my biggest concern and it was solved by the bushing. The bushing fits tight therefore it cannot rotate and with a rated pin, i.e., known shear force, this is a much stronger set-up than a pin alone.

Two points, 1) yes this adds another piece of gear and something that you can loose, 2) I will be replacing this current pin with a rated pin of a know shear force. Bottom line, I'm fastidious enough to be careful with my set- up to hopefully not loose that extra piece of gear, i.e., bushing, and this gives me a much stronger set-up vs. the pin itself without the bushing and lastly all is midline attachable.
