Protos

This may be a silly question, but are there stickers on the protos that you can peel off if you'd like? I saw some people on various videos that looked like they were of a solid color. So was it a special order or just taking some stickies off? Just wondering. Kinda goofy looking hat, but looks very comfy.

Mine came in handy yesterday. I was setting up a couple small removals and probably 1 or 2 minutes after I am done setting lines, pick points and redirects....all the sudden BAM something smacks me in the head. Apparently I had loosened or broke something free that decided it needed a couple minutes to fall down. Nothing big and no injury but just another reminder to always wear your lid when near the trees.

Been there .. August posted a vid of it happening to him somewheres in the threads after a fell. It's funny as long as its funny to whoever took the hit too. And I don't think he was rocking the protos either.

And you guys are digging the mesh visor on that? Looks like when it is flipped up, it is quite low profile. Good selling point in my eyes. I beat the crap out of the Husqvarna one when climbing with it flipped up.

The mesh visor is super beefy! Two months ago using a visorless stock hardhat I took a good size branch butt to the corner of my eye while running the rope for another climber. A few days later I ordered the Protos and haven't looked back. I do look like a stormtrooper now though, which is cool.

I took a hard shot from a large piece of root while stump grinding the other day. The screen shook it off. No breakage or significant dent. The thing hit so hard water from the piece sprayed me. I was surprised with the heft of the screen.

It does stay out of the way pretty well. If I haven't broken it yet, I think it is pretty durable

I love the mesh visor. Stays cool and no weird sun prisms.
I have both the fine mesh, and the coarse mesh visors.
I thought that the coarse mesh would make easier viewing.

The comparison result is just opposite, at least for me.
The coarse mesh caused a distraction.

Get the fine mesh. Better for dust anyway !

I forget the screen is down and try to drink water. I look like Ted Striker from the movie 'Airplane' with his drinking problem.

I'd say the Protos is one of the better purchases I've made. Overall comfortable, snag free, and seemingly rugged so far. I could wear the earmuffs and screen all day and forget they're on. Unless someone comes out with something comparable, I will purchase another when the time comes.

I think I want to get the modular eye shield that sits inside the helmet. For now it's safety glasses and the screen. I'm digging both.

I too have taken a few off, I like the solid color look on it.
Only goofy looking for a while, but it's so comfy you quickly forget about it. No shifting or wobbling around on your head, no muffs getting caught in brush.

This is a great recommendation. It is the single biggest irritant of my Petzl helmet. The shifting and wobbling, that is.

The "sticker-lines" came on mine. They add CONTRAST !
I suppose you could peel them off. But why ? Just for looks ?
I think:
1. You buy this helmet for improved impact protection.
2. Comfort & integrated hearing protection.
3. Visibility - so you don't get something dropped on your head.

Leave the stickers ON ! It's added protection.

If you want style, buy a Fedora hat !
