Protos

I forget the screen is down and try to drink water. I look like Ted Striker from the movie 'Airplane' with his drinking problem.

I'd say the Protos is one of the better purchases I've made. Overall comfortable, snag free, and seemingly rugged so far. I could wear the earmuffs and screen all day and forget they're on. Unless someone comes out with something comparable, I will purchase another when the time comes.

I think I want to get the modular eye shield that sits inside the helmet. For now it's safety glasses and the screen. I'm digging both.
I forget the screen is down and hawk nasty lungers into it... I would prefer your problem I think

The "sticker-lines" came on mine. They add CONTRAST !
I suppose you could peel them off. But why ? Just for looks ?
I think:
1. You buy this helmet for improved impact protection.
2. Comfort & integrated hearing protection.
3. Visibility - so you don't get something dropped on your head.

Leave the stickers ON ! It's added protection.

If you want style, buy a Fedora hat !
Shoot, I guess I am gonna have to ban solid color T shirts at work, put my foot down on these unnecessary safetly violations....strictly tie dyes from now on

Yup. Twice. Good thing I'm not dipping like Drumbo, just plain ol spit. That's ok though. It gets washed off when I have a sip of water.

Which screen does it come with stock? What about the sena comms? I'm trying to talk myself into it, but 5hundy is a lot break off. When I'm leaning towards the purchase, I figure if I'm going to get a $300 hard hat, I may as well get the comms installed too...

It comes stock with the Mesh screen from Treestuff.com. However I believe you can substitute the clear plastic one in if you call them for no additional charge.

Someone else may have ordered theirs that way and would be a better authority on the matter.

Did I mention the chin strap can remain fairly loose due to the incredibly comfy, locking suspension system?

Yep !
You could do handstands without the chin-strap and it would never fall off ! The back locking flap closes back below the ball of you(r) head. Very comfy.

This is the first time I have heard any of these details about the Protos helmets. Thanks oceans and GregManning for taking the time to mention this stuff. This all makes the Protos sound like a dream helmet.

Tim before you drink the Kool-Aid , there are lots of guys who hate the size and looks of this helmet also. If you get a chance try one on and climb in it a while (just like any other piece of gear YMMV)

I will say that it took me some time to get used to everything reverberating through the earmuffs when the mesh visor rubs along twigs and what not.

In fact, one of the first trees I ever climbed while wearing the Protos was a real dense and brushy Eastern Red Cedar. It was like living in one of those videos made with a GoPro camera smacking into stuff and making that nearly unbearable sound...or like being reincarnated as a stethoscope and your owner drops you off a steep rocky cliff into Class 5 Rapids. You know...

Not only will you eventually get used to this, but the relatively snag free nature of the design is a welcome trade off. I'll take a bit of reverb over my helmet getting yanked to the side by a rogue shoot.
