Pine Sap on Ropes

I've tried goop hand cleaner. It's good for laundry stains too. Rub it in to the sappy spots and let it sit a while then wash it out with soap and water or put the rope or lanyard in the machine with the work clothes. I'll bet lestoil would work too.
