Royce, is it accessible for a rec climb ya figure?

Might be, it is kinda close to the road. I should scout it out next time I'm in the area, i would love to climb it.

You live close by?

thanks for posting a picture of that sycamore.

I went to see it and found it was very hollow, so i was contracted to take it down.

here it is on the bed of our k-boom truck last week.

I was kidding of course.

This one we took down was pretty big, but no where near as big as the one at the beginning of this thread.

I'm going to attemp to make a fancy tree house out of this one for my daughter.

I haven't measured the diameter yet actually, I'm thinking around 5 foot. The tree leaned over a house a bit. We did a crane assisted tree removal. video came out really nice, good lighting, pretty day.

I can't believe you haul logs that big with no stakes. Thats a definite federal D.O.T. violation, I'm not sure about your state but probably a violation with them as well. I guess they don't have truck checks in your state.

It looks like there are stake pockets for removable stakes. Am I missing something? Are removable stakes a DOT violation? I see plenty of log trucks all over New England driving around loaded to the gills with removable stakes. That's why they call those flatbeds 'stake-sides,' I think. Maybe it's different in Philly.

The Sunderland sycamore I doubt would be a "go" for rec-climbing, but might be worth a shot. haha.

I drive by it every day on my way to work, tree definitely needs some rehab, tons of broken cables, and some huge deadwood stubs and large hangers over the roadway, wish the town would spend some money on it. Last I knew the tree was roughly 25' CBH, 110' tall, and has something like a 120' spread on it. By the way, thats not me! I'm well over 3 and a half feet tall!

It was only second to the "Hatfield Sycamore" in the next town over, until last year a big (roughly 3ft diameter?) lead peeled off it and landed next to the road. They resistographed it, and found this also 26' circumference tree to have not much more than 5-6" of wood at the base, the rest was completely hollow.....

This also isnt me, just some shmuck high school summer help. :P

I worked for a customer who actually got the second cut of trunk up from the stump cut, and had it made into a playhouse for his kids, very cool! And of course I took pictures!

Why not volunteer, fix it up, and have a great climb?

True, but I doubt they're adding stakes to the flat bed.

Hey DOT cop!

the military roll-off bed pictured does have pockets and I do have stakes for it.

we usually have stakes out when loading big logs. notice the outriggers are still out in that picture. Man on the truck was just taking the straps off from the crane hook.

Here is this better? here is one with the stakes in:

That was a really nice picture and sycamore by the way. that white is really white up top! cool, thanks.

Hey that person in the picture didn't have PPE on! why not, don't you have to wear PPE in your state?

Whatever, Jeff. We all know that's you. The tree just makes you look small.

I think trying to preserve that tree is a great idea. Some local arborists could team up with the Stockbridge School for one day and tweak the tree out. Crown clean some large dead wood, and install support hardware as needed. It would also be great public awareness of what preservation really is. PLUS the local residents really cherish this tree.

They are just cable/phone/house drop to the house behind it on the left. Although the canopy does extend up and over the sub-transmission lines on the far side of the road that you can see in the top of the picture.

Not a DOT cop and not an accusation. I have been fined by DOT cops though for not having my stakes above the mid point of the highest log, thats the federal requirement. That's why I made the observation and I did make an assumption, I apologize for that.
