...It will be very embarrassing for all the CA's....

[/ QUOTE ]Jeez jo you are off on a new rant e3very third post.

Unsupported rants on unprovable philosophy are difficult for outsiders to understand, much less incorporate. Keep comments simple and defendable. All comments to the full committee get a response. You can always contact a committee member in your organization.

Never was a big fan of group think Guy.

When I see or experience problems in the field, like say the tops of sycamores dead and dying due to WCISA groups using them for their arborist certification programs without cambium protection devices?

I'm not the kinda guy that submits letters to them whining about them damaging live park trees to certify members on their ability to perform "proper" tree care.

No, I like to think outside the group box and view it as an opportunity to develope new techniques and methods of solving the problem as efficiently and cheaply as possible.

Anyone who thinks the ISA or TCIA is not as fallible or corruptible as any other so called "non-profit" corporate entity is naive in my opinion.

God I miss old schoolers like Bob Felix these days. He was one of the few insiders of this industry that I could pick up the phone and talk to about problems that I saw in this industry that I felt could be changed, and get a pragmatic no nonsense response from without any BS.

The day will come when my Sky Spider System( see linked to patent in previous post above) will be manufactured and widely used in the tree industry. But like Harvey Firestone, it won't happen in my lifetime due to narrow minded greedy corps protecting "their" turf and market shares.

Logic and practicality has no sway when entrenched corps run the show. But that's never stopped me from taking a personally satisfying bite at their thickly booted ankles both then and now.

Do they feel it? Hell no. Are they aware they've been gnawed at? I like to delude myself and think so.

The longest that Ive ever had to wait for Peter gerstenberger to reply to an email is 1.5 days. That has always been fast enough for me. Have you ever emailed/called Peter about anything?

If you saw tree damage done from inprotected climbing why didnt you become Involved in instituting changes? Chattering in the Peanut Gallery doesn't seem like the most effective way to bring change.

If its to be its up to me.

It was back in 91 at W.O Hart Park in Orange County CA Tom.

It was the genesis moment of inspiration for my leather tube CS.

Calling treebuzz the peanut gallery isn't really giving yourselves/ourselves enough credit. I also heard why not get more involved rather than wasting your text on a forum. Contributing here is better than lurking or not even reading these forums.

The corporate interests are well entrenched.

There is no shortage of egos on the committee. I have had discussions and been dismissed by several. A good scientist at a minimum listens to your point of view, if for nothing else to see what angles his research may be vulnerable. I encounter defensiveness, and on occasion, downright rudeness.

As far as them reviewing public comment, don't know, never submitted one. I can tell the implication that I percieved at the committee meeting was more of a "we have to respond" to this public comment. I would expect a thorough discussion about the point being made. Just my impression.

A peanut gallery? If you have a supported point of view and even one person hears you, it is worth persuing.

Again, the egos are the most signifcant impediment to forward progress.

Peter is a good man, working it to the best of his ability.

Old vs new
Advocate for what you know is a moral and ethical good.
Be persistant.

Knowledge and practical experience you are gaining now will make you money, keep you alive and give you satisfaction at the end of your long day on the ropes.

Its sad when change takes longer than it should.
Take comfrt in that you are able to integrate the old and the new and feel good about your willingness to contribute and share positively.

One of my greatest faults as a human is to discount what others have said based on my esperience and knowledge.
Happy trails

I agree 100% with this!!!

I would also like to add.... as long as we are all using chainsaws, we have yet to come close to what old school is even about. Who cares about knots and ropes. Could you imagine doing what all we do with crosscut saws!!! WOW

It's funny how most of us have this image of loggers being muscle bound Paul Bunyunesque big brawny stereotypes.

When in reality they were whipcord thin hard weathered tough as nails dudes that could probably clean the floor with Paul Bunyun and his blue ox!

I know I wouldn't want to tangle with them!

Me neither!!

Theres a history kiosk at one of the dams above my lake, as the river and lake systems that my cottage is on used to be part of the old log drive from algonquin park. It's got a bunch of stories and information in the kiosk, one being that they would consume an average of like 10,000 calories a day. To still be that skinny means they were working f'ing hard.
