No winter?

... and those would be what in this situation? Do you believe that governments are not involved with financial gain for themselves and as such are unbiased in these policies?
Electrical transmission lines need to be protected. Fire breaks need to be maintained. Insurance companies want tree hazards kept managed aroumd houses they're covering. Is the government not interested in those things? I'm pretty sure the big companies involved in that have the government in their back pockets anyway, right?

I guess that I miss communicated my questions. I was referring to Bill C- 372 that @ghostice had just mentioned.
I feel like I am perhaps the one not understanding then, as I thought that we were talking about that as well... forgive me, but can I ask you to elaborate?

Well, what does maintaining electrical transmission lines and fire breaks have to do with getting thrown in jail for talking contrary to a government narrative?

Oh, I see. It sounded to me that he was extroplating into the future, based on his reading of the bill, that they were going to be coming after our gas saws, which I don't see happening in any of our lives. The bill is specifically restricting forms of speech, more specifically with regards to petroleum, and the promotion of its use. His argument sounds to me to be similar to the arguement that because people want to enforce background checks to make sure, for example, the clinically insane can't buy guns, that soon after that, they'll be coming to take everyone's guns away.

Here in NW Oregon we had a proper winter storm recently - several inches of ice + winds and low temps. A week later it was all gone, now it feels like spring. I've seen a few trees pushing out buds as early as a month ago, I'm curious if we'll get another winter weather event, it if it's just going to be spring until a really shitty summer.

I like winter more than summer, working in the cold & wet is far more preferential for me than 90°+. I hate being hot and I have a bad feeling about this summer :(
Coolvests by Glaciertek.com, @ClimberClyde

There's a whole bunch of cooling vest type technology available now - some are cold pack type vests and others have some kind of polymeric materials that absorb energy slowly over a phase change in a gel or something. Used inductrially all over and in the armed forces (e.g. engine room guys work in 130 dB/ 130 degF and way high humidity at times when the gas turbines get all cranked right up for a while). Some good threads on the topic in past TreeBuzz discussions if you search em out.

Never heard of them, I will definitely try that out this summer. Typically I shove a frozen water bottle in my pants against an artery. Kind of difficult to climb with that though.
2 Sets of packs per person is best. Always one "recharging" in a cooler and ready when the first set gets mostly melted.

And after poking some fun (above), here's a company that's actually DOING something - in a tree kinda way. SHOP is a great online merchant enabler that is getting slammed for their climate initiatives by wall street types right now, undeservedly so I think. Gotta try something.
Seedlings by drone next?
Cone picking anyone?
Some very cool stuff I think. No doubt others know more than me but I thought this is worth mentioning re climate thread above. Personally I'd rather dig into this than go the electric car thing, at least for now. Cheers all.

Minneapoli/St Paul have an international reputation for being the blizzard and sub zero winter cities...with wonderful lakes in the summer.

We are forecast to have another record warm day tomorrow...60 degrees. We already had a record warm December.

Hard to maintain any sort of regional pride without winter

For this year and largely last year too snow events here have become snow rain events, mostly snow first changing to rain but a few rain changing to snow. 1 out of 10 plain frozen snow.

I used to build a snow sculpture fence with christmas lights - years ago. No hope of outdoor skating rink on the lawn for quite a few years too.

We had our last cross country skiing of the year yesterday. A sad year for skiing and most winter sports that rely on snow. Ontario is predicting another bad fire year with a small snow pack in northern Ontario.

Me and the family are heading to Costa Rica next week for a few weeks - planned last summer to escape the shitty part of winter but we've basically lived through it all winter haha!

Yesterday we were forecasted to have 3" of snow tonight, today the forecast changed to rain and no snow. We've been getting rain a lot this winter too. Hopefully the amoc holds up for awhile, if not things will get pretty wacky!
