No winter?

On the same note, another second after that and there will be almost zero trace that humans were ever here. Everything we built, invented, ruined, and changed will be gone. Where you are sitting right now could be 2 miles under an ice sheet, two miles under water, or deep in a lake of hot lava. The planet will continue to change until it is blown apart by an impact from another celestial body, sucked into a black hole, or burnt up by a star. The only thing humans do is ruin that tiny, tiny blip in time for themselves. So in the big picture (life created from hot gasses, brains developing, skeletons being developed, lung being formed, limbs being formed, creation of wings to be able to fly) is an i-Phone, the internet, artificial intelligence, etc. even noteworthy? once humans are gone, all that goes with it. I don't see anything remaining that improves or alters the future of this planet. Not unless we get some mutation of the species that carries on. We will just be some carbon bits that can date a time in history when a biped animal lived for a short period of time. Impactful? Me thinks not. Not in the big picture.

As he said in the movie . . "Mr Anderson, humans are an infestation upon this earth . . ". For me, the above and George Carlin 'bout sums it up in the long run. In the short run, why do we have to trash the place so much tho? (can you imagine the carbon etc emissions from, now, two active wars going on . . . apart from the human toll on all sides)?

Humans have a few problems. First is this religious nonsense. Root cause of a lot of wars, especially in the middle east, and that flops over into other areas of the world. And none of it makes a bit of sense to a logically thinking person. But humans are not logically thinking animals. They have to clutch onto a life after death, and whatever religion they were brought up to believe in gives them that hope. I really wish humans would advance beyond the need that there is something after death and just accept that once they die, they will never be again. But I know that is not going to happen. It scares people too much.

Here in the Detroit area, we're usually frozen solid through January with maybe a brief thaw for a few days. This season has been the opposite; consistently above average, above freezing temperatures with a brief deep freeze in the middle of the month. It was also our wettest January ever.

Yup. Western NY finger lakes region, January saw 1 day of sun. 1. And that was yesterday!

Wet and sloppy. Near 50 yesterday forties for the next few days.

I’m hoping for a late February march freeze again. We actually had it cold enough to skate on some ponds but that is thawed again

Frost laws goes in effect Monday February 5th for Wayne County
lol who would imagine the frost law to go in effect the first week of February
Terrible but I’m not complaining

Here in NW Oregon we had a proper winter storm recently - several inches of ice + winds and low temps. A week later it was all gone, now it feels like spring. I've seen a few trees pushing out buds as early as a month ago, I'm curious if we'll get another winter weather event, it if it's just going to be spring until a really shitty summer.

I like winter more than summer, working in the cold & wet is far more preferential for me than 90°+. I hate being hot and I have a bad feeling about this summer :(

It does have that stink about it

And now a look at when governments truly go too far . . . .
News of a Private members bill tabled in the House of Commons in Canada banning promotion of oil, gas or petroleum products,
and,
the actual text of the Private Members Bill banning any promotion of oil or gas or petroleum products.
The loonie's from Quebec (our Environment Minister and Prime Minister) have well and truly lost it.
No more gas chainsaws for us in a few years . . . . just wow.
I read through the text of the law, and that doesn't seem to be what it says. Can you quote the part where it says that you won't be able to have a gas chainsaw? Or even that they won't be able to be sold?

This thing is a silly private members bill that probably has no chance of passing. But - it does loud and clear show the government's direction (to the point of being willing to limit free speach). The direction in Cant-ada is clearly to get rid of oil and gas - period - and the use of petroleum products or even making any counterpoints about climate etc. (Consider that in the light of this thread above). Jail time? Half million dollar fines? If they are not scared to take away individual rights to free speech, what else will they be willing to ban? Is all . . . If you have money invested up here - RUN. This'll be my last post on this topic (don't wanna go to jail). :)

I fully agree that it limits free speech, but as much as some may wish it to be so, industry won't give an inch without reasonable and viable soltutions to genuine hazard mitigation, such as what most of us provide. You won't see the end of gas saqs in your lifetime. I would bet any amount of money on that. Besides, where would those fleeing run to? Where in the world would be safer from such changes?

... and those would be what in this situation? Do you believe that governments are not involved with financial gain for themselves and as such are unbiased in these policies?
