New MS400c

I hope I don’t dissuade you too much! It’s a fine saw, I just didn’t appreciate it.

My feeling was that it didn’t have the weight or power to push thru a buried cut unless it was a really sharp chain. As soon as that 24” setup was even moderately “work dull” it just struggled. That led me to pick the saw up less and less and choose something else. And I couldn’t get accustomed to its feel so a lot of face cuts were consistently just a bit off . Probably just a me thing as others don’t seem to have that issue

In my posts 4 years ago in this thread I didn't have the 400 or 500, but now I've had both for years and run them both a few times a week, not a single problem with either saw that whole time.

As for the 400, I love mine. I run it with a 20" light, big dogs, oiled foam filter and barkbox on a 3/8 full chisel chain. It's quite loud with that aftermarket muffler and I wouldn't run it that way if I was in a residential area, but the acceleration is even faster, so it's worth it to me and makes the saw even more fun to run, especially for limbing. Lots of power for bucking and it's one of my most used saws.

Stihl is coming out with the '400.1' model which has some changes and less CC, there are a number of videos comparing the two models.
