more fun with knucklebooms

Hey theXman, a fly jib is an articulating elbow attatched to the end main boom extensions. most fly jibs have there own set of extensions, I've seen effer photos of smaller fly jibs mounted on the end of larger fly jibs. (making a crane with 4 knuckles= CRAZY = you could get lost!) Here is some photos of a couple of elm rmv's i just did.

That last photo was a pick flying to the street. Here's where it came from. This siberian wasn't very tall but it sprawled over 3 properties and all power lines to the 3.

Check out the splice in the service wire. this tree had been repeatedly ripping down these lines for yrs. A todd k cut, tip tie and lift and away they go.

OH, okay, thanks.

so Marks is not a flyjib, cause his is solid up to the first knuckle.

nice pictures by the way. I like the arial view looking down.

always suprized of the pictures you show with such large weights.

More knuckleboom photos, this sycamore was able to be picked out in lg. pieces (because i could park close and the landing zone was huge)

What an amazing thread, I've opened every pic LOL. I didn't realise knucklebooms could do that kind of work.

Mike did it take alot of practise before you got used to the machine in terms of manoveuring (sp) etc ?? I could see it would be possible to get into some very messy situations with that outfit !!

Hey Matt Harmsworth, when i got my first remote knuckleboom in 1998, i took it straight to the wood lot! played around w/ the crane there (picking logs & small volunteer trees) before taking to small jobs (just like a new piece of climbing gear- start small) I've been running them for almost 9 yrs. now with no accidents. Admittedly though there have been a few close calls. I had one light pick slip off the shelf cut before i tensioned it, when allmark was out here taking video! = very ugly. but with careful attension not to exceed load chart this set up has worked extremely well for me.

My friends at Arborsmith were nice to give me this job clearing trees from this drainage ditch (always appreciate work this in winter...or anytime actualy!)

every tree in the photo was removed (except the 2 platanus) Most trees were between the primary wires (behind and above me in photo) and the ditch.

O.K. here is where it gets fun! These celtis had primaries on 2 sides, the creek on the other, no access from the 4th side and a pedestrian only bridge that was also under the primaries!!! So i REACHED UNDER THE BRIDGE, felled them into the water & dragged them out! (under the bridge)
