Minnesota Tree Climbing

Fun day today. Pierce showed up and we found some 100' plus white pines. However, we both needed the footlock practice so we opted for some white oaks across the road. Nick Nicklaus arrived some time later and we worked on some MA systems and floating false crotch ideas. I'll be in KCMO next weekend but I'll be looking for a climb on the 25th and 26th!

Turns out I'm in town this weekend.......

Saturday the 18th, Raven mentioned Powderhorn Park for rec climbing mixed with a little pruning and deadwooding

.

Let's go!

Also, Saturday is UFC fight night at the Corner Bar on the West Bank, 9PM.

Getting ready to leave for the Bar... Fight Night!!! Anyway, great day climbing with Brian Mickelson and Nick Nicklaus. Couple large basswoods in Riverside Park. Some nice swings and a giant limbwalk to close out the climbing.

Here's a white pine (pinus strobus) that Raven and I climbed on Tuesday the 28th...

Me frogwalking up.

An example of apical control. This was the original top, now dominated by a few laterals.

Me at the top. By the way... three different arborists (myself, Eric, and Pierce) estimated this tree at 100' tall. Eric and I measured it at 86'! Go figure.

Myself ready to descend. I used DdRT to rappel back to my single line, which I then used to exit the tree after retrieving my ropeguide. Beats the heck out of getting it stuck at 75'!

Last one. At this point we practiced a few SRT rescue scenarios. VERY INTERESTING if you have never tried one!

Taylor, where did find these tree to climb? Looks like a good time, want to try and get out with you sometime! How did that cat rescue turn out? see ya

Hey Jason. Well, like I posted before, I'm out climbing pretty much every weekend. Just get in contact with me to find out where. I try to call a bunch of people prior to every climb, but it's difficult to organize.

Here's today's climb... MN state champion butternut (Juglans cinerea).

Oh, the cat rescue was already spoken for when I called. Thanks for the referral!
