Minnesota Tree Climbing

Shawnee Park - 6515 Scheel Drive
Valley Creek Road west, over I-494 to Weir Drive. Right (south) on Weir Drive to Upper Afton Road. Left on Upper Afton to Martha Lane. Right on Martha Lane then right on Scheel Drive. Scheel Drive dead-ends at the park.

Sounds cool but I'd rather avoid oaks. Any parks with some big hackberrys, maples, or cottonwoods? Next weekend I'm thinking Harriet Island... super mamoth cottonwoods!!!

Taylor,

There's a huge cottonwood in Minneapolis, on the north end of the lake of the isles,(between franklin and mount curve)I've always wanted to climb it, not today though!

Well, what a fun day! I'd like to thank everyone who showed up... Oh, wait... that would be just me.

I did have fun, though. Got to climb on my new Tachyon, didn't step in any dog crap, and nobody asked me "what the heck are you doin' up there?!". Beautiful day for a climb.

AHEM! COUGH, COUGH! TAP TAP TAP. IS THIS THING ON?

Climbing tomorrow, Sunday the 4th. Looking for suggestions on the park, no oaks please. I'm thinking Harriet Island (big, big, cottonwoods) or going back to the giant elm near the Birchwood Cafe. 11AM start time, breakfast beforehand if anyone wants to eat.

Breakfast was fantastic. Beautiful day to sit out on the patio eating an oatmeal waffle with raspberry-peach sauce and drinking coffee. Thanks to Nick Wells for showing up. The big elm was awesome to climb again, followed by a round of throwline golf.

I'd be interested in any climb reports in the Fort Snelling Cottonwood. This is the tree in the center of the universe that was climbed during the ISA Minneapolis conference.

Ha- you play throwline golf everyday dont you?

Or no wait, it just takes you 76 throws to get a line in.

Ppbbbsssshhhhshh! You know it's only 20 throws!

Memorial weekend climb, anyone? This Sat 24th - Sun 25th. I suppose some parks may be busy, so does anyone have suggestions for an off-the-beaten-path type thing? Let's steer clear of the oaks.

You could go down and climb the trampoline Cottonwood at Ft Snelling. Its off the beaten path. You might get a few spectators, but it wont be busy like a typical park would be
