Looking for a chip truck

How close are your dump sites?
How close/far is your work?
How many removals do you do?
What size is your chipper? If it's 15" or over and you do a lot of removals of go big.
Is this a stepping stone truck that you envision selling?

These aren't questions to live or die by, but they're things that vary from person to person and place to place. I work with a 12" chipper behind a '08 F550 with a nice southco arb box on it, I think 12 yards. I know if we were towing a 15" chipper, the weight full of chips would be tough. Plus a 15" creates that much more cause of chipping wood where we would be running a lotta loads sometimes.
Good luck man, looking forward to the day I'm on the same search

I had a V10 in this one, 4 mpg.

That's not bad at all. My '08 with 6.4 get 6.5 mpg towing, loaded and empty (on average).
It's been said several times already try to match the chipper size with the truck. My 550 was a little big to for the 10" chipper in had before, seemed like I couldn't fill the truck (just couldn't put enough through the chipper by hand). And this time of year is frustrating because you need to dump it every day or risk freezing the chips in. When I up graded chippers to 15" with winch I have no problem filling the truck. Guess all I'm saying is if you are chipping 15" of material day in day out go bigger. If 10-12" stuff, smaller would work. Be careful not to go so big though that you can't get it into you clients property or cause damage doing so.

I'm just starting out, so don't laugh:

1. 1987 S1954 International w/ DT466 & 5/2 trans.
2. 125,000 original miles.
3. 18' Flat Dump that PO had 6' side bodies installed on. The body was way too long to use for anything other than cleaning out newly built houses.

It has been sitting under an oak tree for the last 10yrs, & has been bumped into by various pieces of equipment.
I have a replacement hood.

Tires have already been replaced.

All lines & hoses will be replaced before it is tagged.
As it sits now:

I will have 4' 6" in the clear for the platform.
I plan to haul a mini skid on the platform, as well as plywood storage & a Rigging box.

The chip bed is 11 1/'2' long 6' tall & just under 8' wide.

Paint is in order once the welding is complete, but I've not been able to work on it that much.

Total invested will be around $10k.

11.5'L x 7.75'w x 6'h = 19.8cy?

Is that enough capacity for a 12" chipper?

I'm not laughing. That's a great truck. Pre-emision and simple. More importantly ... reliable.

Thanks guys. Can't wait to paint chipper this winter all black. Kubota weighs in around 12k. Been looking for a hook lift to match international. Not a bad set up for weekends.
Whoa, whoa, whoa .... whats wrong with Mobark red/orange?!!! Just kiddin' lol. Just get those "Mobark" decals in gold. ;)

I have an '88 F600 with the 6.6l I6. It's a cab and chassis with 19' of frame with a gvw of 22,900lbs. I also have an older Hiab 170 speed loader, with winch. I want to wack-off 3' of frame and add a 14' dump with a removable top. Should I wait on the Hiab and put a L-pak tool box instead? Thinking maybe truck isn't enough gvw for the k-boom.

I wouldn't worry bout l pack just a big box accessible from both sides 1 and done. If you go the boom put it to work. Not making any money how it sits no working now. Your always gonna be close to if not over weight. It's the nature of the biz, just where and when is it the question

Not a bad truck. Twin piston hoist Very nice. Low miles build a top n ready to go
I'm going to put an actual tailgate in it, kind of like a tandem, but with a center door to use with the chipper or to set chunks in with the mini.
