I bought a Petzl Rig today....

[ QUOTE ]
Decided to bite the bullet and ordered a petzl rig, new htp static line (got the red so it would be very visible) new rope bag, some new ocean poly hitch cord and I figured that while I was in a spending mood I also bought 200ft if super braid and some of those nitrate gloves.

Combine that with the deposit I just put on a new dump trailer earlier tonight and i'd say that I'm probably going to be spending a few bucks on a motel room when the miss' finds out

it's all your fault Ron.

Ummmmm, you're gonna be in troooouble! Oh wait, you're gonna blame me for this!

I bet she's not gonna buy that - she knows you too well.

I wouldn't be too hard on me, when your wife finds out what you've done, you may have to move in with me 'til she cools down.

Man, this is like Christmas in April. I'm eager to hear what you think of the Rig on HTP.

Let me tell you, I did a RADS with the Rig on 10mm HTP tonight - maaaaan it was sweet! I felt like a monkey goin' up. It descends great. I'm about 200 or so lbs geared up.

But, don't anybody else go crazy and buy a Rig and HTP until we see how FamilyTree likes it....errr....them....uhhh, HTP and the Rig that is.

I think alot of us wonder where the dysfunctional family tree fortune comes from. I work full time and have a relatively successful side biz, and the DFT contributes alot more than I do to the economy, so to speak. I consider myself a big spender, too. If something will benefit my business, I will sacrifice to purchase it. FT is in another spending bracket than I am, which piques my curiosity as well as Ted's. ...Maybe we're doing something wrong?

Either way, Ted's post is totally relevant, as it relates to the purchase of gear, which is the title of the post.

So you guys want to take a thread about a preliminary evaluation of the Rig and turn it into a who's spending how much, and how-they-do-it, thread because this thread is about a piece of gear?

Actually, DFT did that already. We just piled on.

I saw Jeff Deneer do his entire masters climb on the RIG.
It was fast and very smooth. I bought one but have yet to play with it. It seems to run very smooth on velocity. Im waiting for Jeff or Ron to give me lessons. My body is begging me to get off the old climbing style and figure this SRT thing out!

Yes, he mentioned buying some stuff, including a Rig which is specifically what this thread was intended address. I don't know what has precipitated this side issue, but this doesn't seem like this place to grind an axe about someone spending over some unspoken limit.

I've read lot's of posts about guys buying KBs, etc. no one seemed to react this way about those purchases.

I have climbed on a RADS system before but was not a huge fan. Seemed like it was too slow??? Eather way it does seem to me that something needs to be made for ascending and descending without a rads being made.... and without haveing to remove equipment and adding something in its place.

P.S, you cant tell a person how to do two things in life one is Think and the other is Spend there money.

The Rig worked well on my Velocity. The nice thing about the Velocity-Rig combination is the Velocity is right in the middle of the Rig's range of rope size, and with Velocity you could always switch over to a trad or split-tail DdRT if the situation calls for it. But come down SRT on the Rig - that's alot more fun!

Oh, if you cinch a limb to come down, don't forget some kind of pull down so you can retrieve the rope. That' built into DdRT, but you have to remember to do that for an SRT limb cinch.

The trick here is to not make eye contact and maintain focus. Take a deep breath and go back to compiling facts and photos in the manner you are so good at.

Seriously. You do great write-ups.

I used the Trango in Rads today and it is close, but I feel that the Rig has a couple of improvements that will increase productivity.

This now famous master climb was one of the main reasons I purchased the rig. Hearing how smooth it reacted during a master climb was interesting enough for me to want one myself. As much as I love my uni I am not very fond of limb walks with it. To be fair, I haven't given it much of a chance either, usually switching to drt once my TIP is reached.

I tried using my grigri for limbwalks. Not smooth unless using my velocity. I'm hoping that this is not the case with the rig.

I'll be doing some videos Saturday of the Rig in action on HTP. I did one video tonight but it was just an up and down and I want to do a little more than that.

I'll try to get that (those) climbs on YouTube before the weekend is over and a discussion video like I did with the Eddy. I want a little more experience with it doing something more than just up and down - although it does that well.

I do appreciate that - it is encouraging.

I concur completely. The Rig is certainly a workin' man's tool where the Cinch is more slanted toward compact, light weight for deep woods rec climbing, etc.

I really like the Rig's lock off feature for work positioning.

Well thanks X-man for that input. Well I am thinking Rig for sure. But I am keeping in mind the cinch. It is good for lanyards any way if nothing else. But watching Ron use it, it seemed to work great for RADS! Going up with ease, not loosing any slack. And rappeling with speed. So I guess when it would be good to use it is when you are going straight up and down, and not no limb walking.

And Ron, I am a snake lover! If I am thinking right in the catolog, what they show is a Gopher Snake. And it does carry a good pattern. Completely harmless. If you picked one up from the wild, you probably would not even get a love bite. So no worries.

I didn't know of the Petzl Rig until this thread.

Here is a video on the Petzl website for the Rig.

I don't know where you're goin' with this, but this isn't the place for it, whatever it is. This thread is about the Rig.
