Hurting Trees

Watched your poplar removal vid, maybe you should submit a few of those pics to the calender committee

Tx! Too many technical errors in that so I didn't post it to TB ,but it was an awesome day for me all the same. It was my first rigging attempt for a whole tree removal and the tree was on the ground within time required so I felt good about it. I may have one of those images in TreeBuzz Men and Women II coming up soon.

Stay tuned...

Also checked out the poplar removal, Good Job!

I notice you topped out your tie in leader first thing, where did you learn that? No doubt you've previously made the4 mistake of leaving that topping cut 'til last and realized how crappy that spar feels when the rest of the tree is gone. I love that move, it's SOP here.

Mind if I link to your hurting trees vid on my site? Do we need permissions for youtube vids or are they fair game?

Tx Raven.

I made the vid public, so yes, I'd be pleased if you linked to the vid! It's all about getting the word out, and changing the way people think. The images are not all mine so the vid should be left intact with the full credits too of course.

We tend to take the top off the tie in and rigging points. I switched them around halfway through. I know waht you mean. A good chunk of my removals are spruce and I do them bottom up. Sometimes the top feels a little creepy in the wind just before I take it off for sure! I always feel better when that's gone. Some people do them top down for that reason.

Frax,

Good job.

I wonder if the public would understand the sarcasm though.

us Arborists do, but i doubt most of the public would underdstand.

don't be upset at this next remark; because i think the more videos out there showing wrong tree care is great; but it seems like the sarcasm theme really copies another arborist video that was posted like maybe 6 months ago; the guy that posted all the topped trees in his area. This video seems like a sure copy of his video work.

To make the uneducated viewer understand the sarcasm maybe you could write; " everything you will see next is the WRONG THING TO DO TO A TREE.

maybe you did, if you did, I'm sorry; i missed it, only watched once so far.

i don't think it was him, it was a buzzer though.

maybe you just mirrored his video without even seeing it then.

it was an arborist that worked in the southern us i think and all the local tree services topped trees like crazy and he was sick of it. he wanted to move away and was going to do that too i think.

most of his video he drove around in a truck and showed the trees. i think he had funny sacastic comments typed on the video the whole time. It seemed like many were almost word for word.

just a coincidence i guess then.

great job.

Frax, pause your vid at 0.18 -

Ok, now you seem to be implying that the person who topped that tree would want a beer after he/she had completed the job.

But what if the person didn't want a beer at all? what if they just wanted to go home and read a book or play chess with their kids?

HA! you never thought of that did you??!!

Nice but agree with X it is aimed at our lil niche not the public. 2 nits--pine and 1 more evergreen around :52 did not look hurt to me, but shaped to what was probably owner specs and maybe biologically responsible.

and the crepemyrtles at 1:24 and 3:19 are pollarded quite close to acceptably--they look like my trees!

nice poplar removal, finishing what the vandal started. :( Try your new Sugoi on those 10-15 cm cuts--maybe easier than the 200t on those. Nice to see a woman up there who knows how to handle the big wood.

Thanks all

It was macrocarpas still images as well as his commentary and drive thru vids referred to by X. I wanted to make this vid way back even before seeing macrocarpa's cool vids as well a stills. And I was pleased he allowed use of some of his images and commentary. I did use his words, word for word because they were with the image, and I did not want to change his thought. His work was actually my motivation to ask for contributors rather than just using my own images which tend to get repetitive. I was very pleased to get the other contributors too. Much better than just using all my own images which I originally planned.

And Guy, you are right, those are pollard heads - not my images. I knew they were likely legit pollard heads and I just don't care for the look, but its a legitimate technique and maybe I should not let my bias encroach here -maybe I should exclude them. Same with the other images you mentioned. They were not mine and maybe I missed the actual point of them.

Grover you are right too! Why do I think he wants a beer? Maybe he, NO, maybe SHE wants to go play bingo or be off to do volunteer work at the local SPCA. I am guilty as charged of assumptions again!

And Guy is a writer. He knows exactly what he writes. I can handle it.. the wink and nod I mean ... not the big wood.. well, yes I can ...no I didn't mean...yes, no... oh sh*t Frax... just shut up while you are marginally ahead!
