HRC

Thanks Tom, If it was just for me I was buying it for I would not mind the price. But when you start handing it out to everyone I want to make sure in the long run it was worth the added expense. If my wife new how many tree toys I buy with my own money I would not be typing this. /forum/images/graemlins/bangtard.gif

I've been using HRC for about three months. Great stuff. I have tried to burn it up with no success. I see no problem in getting at least six months out of it climbing full time. I ditto all that Tom said earlier. The one drawback? You can't use the old butane backsplice!! /forum/images/graemlins/zbanghead.gif

You can whip it!

I would say that it's rare for someone to regularly descend on anything BUT the friction hitch.

Nick, that's what I would have thought, but that Ultra Tech glazes so easily and is so expensive for an eye-and-eye cord. That why I was looking at the possibility of using a descender. I didn’t think of the fact that it had a poly cover.

Tony, could you explain what that is please?

Well, I’m going to try some HRC. It’s sounds like what I’ve been looking for. It’s funny that the only place it can be found (by me, on the web, anyway) is at Bishop’s (and I got that from Nick, as it is, so I didn’t really find it.) If you think about it, $2.03/foot is cheap compared to the price of one Ultra Tech eye-and-eye @ $28.00 from Sherrill’s, especially if you can get 6 months or more out of it.

By the way, is the HRC very flexible like the Sta-Set, or maybe, a little firmer?

Everyone, thanks for all the input. As usual, I learned a lot. I appreciate it.

Glens,

Your avatar always freaks me out. At first glance I think it's Wolter /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Good eye. It's a composite of both Wolter's and Roxy's avatars, which I put up in response to the Arbor Day thread where they both(?) were expressing problems with uploading replacement images. I did it to show it does work.

I'd intended to remove it once either of them made note of it. I'm not really an "avatar" kind of guy otherwise.

"The Butane Backsplice" is a term coined by Brion Toss who has written a few books on knots, splicing and rigging sailboats. It refers to using a cigarette lighter as a heat source to melt the end of a synthetic rope instead of crowning or whipping.

Jim,

HRC is very flexible. IT is a little smaller than 3/8" (if you use that size) so it may act a bit different from Sta-Set. I will add the tech info and where you can get it next week when I get the info. All in all, I like it a lot and feel that it is the best choice on the market (that I've tried) for prusiks.

Jim,
Tom nailed the "Butane Backsplice" I have used 3/8 stayset and have found no difference in knot preformance despite HRC's slightly smaller size. I would agree with you on the price difference when you compare the longevity of the two products.

Glens,
Nice word play on Devo!

I just ordered the pre-tied from Bishco. 19.95 or something like that. I used the comprable that WESSPUR sells and like it. Little did I know that my safety-v high vis climbing line has a glaze/coating covering it. I get terrible grab and have to set the VT by hand before it grabs. I also have all this crap all over my prussic. I thought it was glazing from friction, now I know it is glazing like a doughnut from the line. Wish I had known before I bought 2 lengths or the high-v. Learn from my mistake if you don't already know this.

Well, I ordered some HRC from Bishop's today. They said it will ship end of next week. They're ALL sold out. /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif Said they've had people trying a piece here and there and then ordering bulk quantities.

I'm sure looking forward to trying it. Mark, have you been able to get the tech info yet? Is there any other place to order it?

Talked to a couple of guys today who were taking down a tree down the street. They knows about treebuzz now. I tried not to play it up too much. Just a few great site, wonderful site, great people, helpful guys/gals type things. I tried to be low key /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hope some treebuzzers can make to Belair, MD June 4th.

I have run into the same thing with Blaze 11mm. It seems that thanks to these sites word is traveling quickly. /forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif
