HH carabiner

[ QUOTE ]
Does anyone use an aluminum carabiner with the HH or do you have to use the steel one? Thanks.

I agree, it needs to be steel.
Better yet, replace it with a steel shackle you will never go back to that carabiner. IMO

I know others have asked: source and model for the shackle.

I just blindly went out and got a 1/2" "anchor" shackle. The mouth was too narrow and the pin was too fat! Also, Someone mentioned 20,000 lb WLL, I only see 6000 in the data sheets.

So what's the part number? (please)

Does anyone use a shackle like this to tend the Hithhiker carabiner?

It seems this may make a good attach point for self tending the HH also on a doubled rope.

Surveyor, do you own stock in a large, privately held company that produces chain links!?!?!

Thanks of the continuing innovation. Have you tried this and found it effective? It looks like a great tending point in SRT as well...

Hey Eric, Some times it seems like I do! I have quite a collection and continue to work with various OAR configurations. I think the shackle would tend the biner well SRT with the HH and be strong enough for DRT also.

Levi, sadly I do not have access to a Hitchhiker to experiment with or post a picture with the above shackle. The spacing is right I believe, based on the dimensions of the HH, as the shackle is 1-1/8" wide between the eyes.

If anyone has a used HH system they would be willing to let me experiment with, I would send it back with the above tending attach point shackle as a way of thanks.

Thanks Tom D. for your offer of the early HH, I will take you up on that!
Wishing you well on your new position.

Gordon

I'm thinking also that if I add the right size roller, fit within the HH, next to the biner (or shackle), that it would aid to ease the rope as slack is tended upwards,

Gordon, here's a pic of how I'm using my HH. Someone posted the setup a while ago and it tends like a dream. Maybe this will help you in your travels.

I'm very interested your link/shackle drt setup!

Yup! Great idea man. :)

I agree you definitely have to make sure you don't drop the pulley.

That pinto is getting chewed up a bit from the knurled gate on the oxan. I'll probably grab an isc micro to use in place of the pinto.
