Gear for kids/beginners?

ok then, let me know how it goes for you, anyways im gonna go do something better with my life than argue about dumb stuff

Since neither of you are lawyers I'm not sure why you're offering me advice.
OK I'll bite if it's an argument you want , since you're not a tree climber what the fuck are you doing trying to "invent" tree climbing gear? I bet you're also not a parent and don't understand / fully realize the liability issues involved.

Go back to school and try to learn some things about life. You're right you did get advice, that advice was stop what your doing as it's not safe. I hope you took it. Please be sure to site this thread in your project references so your professor can read how dumb you and and give you a proper grade.

And why wouldn't my gear be allowed to have the same type of warning?
The legal term is "attractive nuisance", you may also find some useful tidbits reading up on tort law.

ive learned thru the years, its the dumb one who knows everything, apparently I know nothing
I wish I was still a kid so I could know everything, you're allright though treesap so apparently it's somewhere between your age and graduate student age where you become the smartest person alive.
The further in life you go and the more you learn the more you realize you don't know jack shit.

there is one option for how to make this "Device" safe, Dont Make One tree climbing has some VERY specific safety regulations/industry standard, im not going into detail, but for a "School project" there is no way you could have gone and researched all the info, then designed something around those specs in any reasonable amount of time, oh and the icing on the cake, even a cheap system will cost so much, noone is going to buy it

Ok had a morning toke and decided to let your ignorance go and actually give a real opinion why this is bad...

If a kid free climbs a tree starting at ground level, makes it 10' up and falls he's good, young bones bounce, a 10' fall is no more energy then crashing a bike at full speed or smashing into a parked car on rollerblades.
Now take that same 10' of climb then the kid falls but he's used your "device" to start climbing at 10' up, he's now just took a 20' fall and there goes his femur.
You're aware of the generally accepted 30' rule in tree climbing? 30' or above is considered the black zone, anything above that and a fall equals instant death. Now the kids gets brave and starts his short climb 20' off the ground misses one branch and boom Mr and Ms Timmy's parents are out a kid and (ask any toy maker who's been sued) replacement cost of one kid will negate all profits your manufacturing company has ever made.

I need some popcorn and coffee, and watch this unfold

second thought, this is to bad for me to leave un attended

I climbed trees growing up as my main game. One of the games was to jump out and practice rolling and breaking the fall. The practice of understanding (and feeling) the impacts and height are crucial. I agree that gaining height without learning low is a bad combo.

I can understand trying to make something simple and affordable, yet hear:
kids harness ~ $50
50' climbing rope ~$40
hitch cord ~ $25
2 carabiners ~$40
(tending pulley ~$20)

talking $150- 175 bucks for a super legit setup. they can wear a bike helmet and go. I set up my boys with a system like this. nintendo systems cost $300 before buying games.
I know it's a real cost, not a cheap token gift, but this also encourages whoever bought it to make sure the kids actually go out and use it.

Creating tools that include some of the early advice here (how to help kids ascend through mechanical advantage, or help lowering them) is a way more promising concept. You can tag onto what already exists for youth climbing.

I set up a pulley on the tail so they can haul each other up. they think its funny and have fun with it.

This thread reminded me that my dad probably still has the lawn darts stowed away somewhere...
I used to love those! I found a set in my grandparents’ shed when I was a kid, I’m sure my grandmother thought they were hidden better than they were...
