Double gaff spurs

Just thought I'd let y'all know that I got those cheap Russian double gaff spurs in the mail yesterday.
Out of the box they were junk.
I had to change the angle that the points came out at (a 45? Seriously?) and figure out how to wrap the low strap, but they seem to be in working order now.
I like the pads.
I don't know yet if they will work as well as I want them to, but I'm going to find out whenever I get a takedown to stomp up.

Yea, I'm particularly fond of the first statement on their website, "You'll Never Climb the Same Ever Again"
Because you'll have 2 big holes in your ankle, instead of 1. The price must be in Ruples! That's just insane!

Don't forget to put your blood type on them, as well! I just can't wrap my head around the concept, at all! [emoji849][emoji848] Keep your blood clotting pack on you at all times.

You might want to take a magic marker and write the phone number of a good orthopedic surgeon on those pads.

I really feel like all of these climbers who are so into innovation in our trade are really snobby about this particular area.
Like a system that was developed God knows how long ago can really be the end all for spar work/large takedowns.
Spurs as they are are uncomfortable. I haven't found a suitable replacement yet, but I figure I'll do it or die trying.
I wish I was so disgustingly well off that I could just try those 3000 dollar spurs the way that I can these hundred dollar ones. If they worked half as well as they advertise that they do, I wouldn't ever wear traditional spurs again.

I do. Anyone who runs a saw should. It's just a smart thing to do.

Just a thought: how did SRT look at first?
Canopy friction devices? Hell, the portawrap?

I'm not saying that these spurs are the solution, but they are effort in the right direction.

So very true STW, every new device went through tons of scrutiny, before it was deemed worthy or worthless. The basic deal with these Spurs are 1st and foremost the cost. As Jeff mentioned, if we were made of money, they very well may be a feasible concept. But, how many of us have a $$$ Tree in our yards? 2ndly, they just seem to be very protective from the shin up, which is actually a good thing. Who knows, they may be the next great concept on the market. But, not in my gear bag! [emoji26]

I have never had a problem in traditional spurs...just find ways to avoid using them these days....SRT did amazing things helping me ditch the fuckers dismantling crowns..straight spars well different...some trees still very necessary

I wouldn't ever wear traditional spurs again.

Oh, when something comes out that looks promising, like the overpriced Terminator looking $3700 ones (which never seem to actually be available) I do keep an eye on them. I agree, there's so much room for improvement!

But the Russian ones are not a new innovation... the design is very old and crude. They also do some nasty flexing on your tibia that isn't pleasant. Don't ask me why I know that. I am merely warning you that you might want to be very careful with them. Don't rush to the top of a tree, go up about 20' and back down a few times before you put too much faith in them. Who knows, you might like them.

Speaking of boats, @swingdude... when are you going to open a Hotel up over there that caters to tree folks (and gives them a substantial discount) and has regular pleasure boat rides back and forth from the US? I could use a tropical vacation... :)

Thank you for being constructive.

I'm thinking about setting them on the proper side of the shank. Or just fabbing my own set with a few major changes.

This thread has officially been hijacked! I just got back from a cruise- all I could drink! I think I had a great time?!? We should all pile onto a boat and search for Swingdude like a fat ex-girlfriend. So freakin jealous of your work environment! Is there poison ivy in Barbados?

No poison ivy here limb loppa....but we have deadly trees like mancheneel and kapok plus poison tree that can give one a hard day....I am so done dealing with those I will hit the beach broke than deal with them....
