Lots of folks would like the atmosphere at 6,500 elevation.

Photos do not give an idea of how big Old Grandad is.

Once you get to the top their sure is a pretty view. At this point we were two hundred and fifty feet up. This is an unnamed tree in the area of Fishcamp, Calif.

Being at the top sometimes is not as fun as the climb itself.

When it comes to great big Redwoods in a pristine setting try going to Nelder Grove out of Fishcamp,Calif. Even if you don't want to climb these trees they are still magnificent in their slendor. A simple walk on the pathway will reveal some mighty big trees. If you choose to wander off the pathway then beprepared to have your mind blown away. I have been visting this grove of beauties for over thirty five years and each time its like for the first time.

Sometimes I feel like a nut and sometimes I am one. Climbing to the top just to turn around and climb back down.
WHAT FUN!!!

Sometimes it helps to review a safety precaution or 2 before leaving the ground. Heres the idiot-proof lock off for a floating false crotch. The biner keeps the climber from climbing over the fork where the single line is located, preventing a fall.

Someone had to take my picture?

If I ever get the chance to conquer one of those west coast beauties, I'd toast the accomplishment too. : )

My 4 1/2 year old son just conquered a bradford pear today. Top rope belay, but man was it cool to see, I think he's hooked.

Hey, nice shot. Did you take that picture just yesterday?

Re: Does anyone climb fo\' fun anymore?

If you do climb for fun and are able to help facilitate kids from across the Northeast, please let me hear from you. There is a major event being put together. We are set to include tree climbing with all the other climbing that's out there. The object for kids is to climb the equivalent of Mt. Everest by taking part in a climbing wall, etc, etc. So, naturally, I suggested recreational tree climbing. But I'm not in the Northeast AND I can't facilitate climbs! It has the potential to be pitched to national media. But media or not, if you want to pass on your love for trees to the next generation, there is an opportunity on the horizon.
