DMM throw hook.

Okay, an update from the company across the Atlantic, I got an email from them this morning, the cost breakdown for the "Captain Throw Hook"
$109.00 in Euros for Hook
$20.00. In Tax again in Euros
$49.00 in Euros for shipping
So 178£'s =$257.59 in USA, just for the Hook! TS, wins hands down w/the kit!

Thanks for checking that out and posting Dave. Can you clarify between Euros and £'s though? - 178 Euros = $200 USD.

Thanks

Cool. Thanks Dave - appreciate it.

This means that for the Hook (and Shackle and XSRE Carabiner) alone (including shipping to US - depending on where you are) is roughly $200 USD - that makes roughly (depending on slight shipping changes) $278 CAD.

That's what the e-mail, that I received quoted me this morning, it also said to wait 10 days before placing my final order, I have "No Idea" what that's all about! I tried to get as much accurate info that I could, without calling them, as possible! I hope this helps in any way possible.

That's also what I was told from the company, that Sherriltree is there distributor. Mid March. I guess we're all on the same page as far as getting in line to purchase the newest toy for our trade!

The most important thing is as Reg mentioned:

"When hooking between firs, which is pretty commonplace in my region, the rule of thumb is to always throw through a crotch and have the hook snag on a limb below that point. That way the angle of the hook never changes as you transfer....because the high point is only a redirect."

Right, just pointing out the technique in the instructions. 50' of line doesn't mean you can transfer 50' away.

Who's gonna have that much accuracy at that distance? You'd have to over throw and slowly retrieve to your appropriate branch location. So, 50' doesn't seem that long. Guess I just answered my own question! Huh...

That's hilarious, Tuebor. That's like saying McDonalds coffee can scald you if spilled! I'm sure there will be a few that try to use the "Hook" as a primary Ascension Tool! Never fails, never underestimate the stupidity of the general public!

Know exactly what you're saying Dave - people should always be aware of how their tools are designed to be used. For better, and worse - this will not stop some from experimenting/using it in a way it wasn't designed to be used.
