DMM throw hook.

Must be my browser (TenFourFox) on my desktop machine. I fired up my newer laptop with Safari on it and I can watch them on that. Now I need to go back and watch all yours that I missed!

Another possible use for the Hook is for limb support. You could keep the branch from sagging as you walk out, or possibly lift a drooping one.

Looks like it works. I haven't tried it, just came up with the idea as I slowly dropped while limb walking a drooping branch recently.

While watching your video, I saw that it might be easier, instead of taking the rope over the branch, is to place a sling and carabiner on the branch, put the rope in the carabiner or then set up the mechanical advantage.

Tim, I just use a scaffold hitch. I really can't tell any difference in the way it handles compared to a spliced eye. It also gives me the option of easily taking the Hook off if the need should arise.

Bob, did you use the rope holding up the branch for stability at some point while walking out? It seems like that would help briefly, depending on how high and far out on the branch that the rope was.

Wolverine comes to mind when I think of using two hooks!

Even better if you can graft on two additional arms as well!

There is a smaller (possibly European) tree company I came across in a google search that held a limited run of “Matte Grey” Captains for Black Friday last year, but they’re completely out of stock, and I haven’t come across anyone that had acquired one. Before being stuck with Red, I contacted DMM about it, and they said they had “a few” in Grey still, but I would have to have it special ordered through a dealer. Got in touch with a few Arb suppliers stateside, seeing who was interested/willing, and WesSpur was by far the quickest on the pickup. Took a few extra weeks, but worth it...I just don’t like red.

You just walk in here with a frick'n black hook , just like that? Just dropped it on us and made us all feel soooo bad.

That looks great! Spray paint works pretty well, a hook could be just about any color ;-)

*Chuckle*. Anything I can do to ruin someone’s Tuesday.

Looking forward to some clear weather to test it out/make sure my rope lengths are practical. Then I’ll ditch these knots and make something more permanent.
