Covid Close To You

Is your argument that we should do nothing to slow the spread and let as many people die as possible to achieve herd immunity?

Are you signing yourself up to do some shifts at the intensive care or the morgue since deaths will begin to be double the rate of normal or more?

What death rates would you expect to see if the spread was left untempered by these simple measures? There are only so many ICU beds and ventilators.

Are you volunteering to be the person in charge of deciding who gets a ventilator and who doesn’t?

Or will you just suck it up and wear a mask? That sounds a lot easier.

This isn’t a video game. People have very real life consequences for this selfish kind of mindset. Please put yourselves in the shoes whose lives are directly impacted from this. Not inconvenienced, I mean really impacted.

Sorry, you are correct. I skipped past that quote while looking for the original. Scroll down this page https://www.worldometers.info/ and let me know how 400,000 deaths, that may or may not have been caused by Covid, (as everything is labeled a Covid death at this point), is a" deadly pandemic" and we should shut everything down. Fucking absurd is right.
Don't be daft.

"Everything" is not being label as a Covid death.

The pandemic is "deadly" because it kills people - unlike herpes.

"Everything" isn't shut down. Give me a break. There's not been a single thing I couldn't do all year long with a mask, except dine inside a restaurant for a couple months. What have I done and where have I gone this year?

Help, I'm being repressed!
We have doctors all over the place telling us otherwise. Search co-morbidities and covid, the CDC itself claims 94%, leaving just 6% to covid alone.
I'm happy to hear you had such a great time in 2020. Tell it to those deemed "unnecessary" by the idiots in charge. Those that lost the ability to provide for themselves and their families. Those who have lost loved ones, especially the young, to suicides caused by these "non-existent" lock downs, and the depression and loss they have caused. Run the numbers, and you'll quickly realize this was never about a virus. It's about control, and the clamps are going to get tighter and tighter as we move forward.
Just wear a mask, just stay away from others, just get the vaccine, then get a second dose or maybe ten or so if the first nine don't do the trick ( obvious clue: it won't). Then get a micro-chip implanted, to track where you've been and to prove you've been vaccinated, but it won't be mandatory, only if you want to actually leave your house and/or hold a job. Then get tagged with a social approval rating that follows you around like it's tattooed on your forehead. 35% of all the USD in circulation was just printed in 2020. This along with continued unchecked spending will lead to massive inflation, eliminating much of the middle class and creating an environment where the poor will have little or no way to pull themselves out of poverty, along with probable bread lines and possible starvation, massive increase in suicides, and massive civil unrest. Plus a million other issues I could list if you want to read an endless rant.
Welcome to a real life smash-up of the most twisted Black Mirror episodes ever conceived.
Let's re-visit this discourse six months to a year from now. I'm hoping you will have been proven correct and everything I listed as a concern won't have come to pass

You're detached from reality. All kinds of sad things have happened during Covid but there is no conspiracy. Sometimes bad shit happens and there isn't any way to escape being damaged. If you think this is just the flu, maybe you can explain why there were two shipping containers full of dead bodies outside my window at work from March until the end of May?? The real thing you should be angry about is that the ultra rich haven't suffered at all under this pandemic, and that is because our American way of life is a facade of freedom that really revolves around money. You're drinking the Kool-aid by letting right wing nut jobs pit you against your fellow American working class. Shame on you. If you feel like people judge you as "afraid" because you wear a mask, that's you projecting your own feelings on to others. Grow up and be an adult. I wear a mask every day, but I'm not afraid of anything. I just don't want my 74 year old Dad with emphysema to die if I accidentally infect him while being asymptomatic. Use your brain. Realize that YOU are the sheep, not those of us taking precautions to keep our fellow man safe.

Apparently you missed my earlier comment
"While US billionaires increased their wealth to the tune of $1,000,000,000,000.00+ dollars during 2020, average joe has lost or is losing his shit. Seems legit, for a virus that kills far less than 1% of people infected. Something sinister is afoot, if you can't see that, you're being willfully ignorant of it. Time will tell."
Your next failure is assuming I'm right wing. I despise both wings with equal amounts of scorn.
Your 74 year old dad with emphysema is going to die regardless, as are we all. Lets lock everyone away and stop living life because there's a chance old people with co-morbidities will die in the presence of their friends and family.
I have a close friend and also an immediate family member who are both RN's such as yourself. Neither is buying this story as it's being presented. Question everything, otherwise YOU are the sheep. To think otherwise is at the very least illogical. Take the precautions you need to keep yourself safe. Stop attempting to legislate morality. It ends in totalitarianism, every single time.

Another one having had a great 2020. I'm happy for you. Plenty of others have lost quite a bit, some lost almost everything, and some lost their lives, all due to the stupid over-reaction of those you worship and adore.

More businesses hiring now than ever before

businesses are giving hiring bonuses and paying same day with higher wages

We had a record year
1 hour wait for any drive through on weekends
2 hour wait on food delivery
Post office -UPS -FED X - Amazon all 2 weeks behind
Machines -automobiles appliances-building supplies 3-6 months behind
This is from our economy being sabotaged?
And we need more unemployment relief or stimulus checks. WTF
And the media still says our economy is in trouble
Come on

Sad thing we’re due for the economy to crash seems to happen every 7-9 years

You sound comfortable deciding who lives and who dies.
Do I? Please explain how advocating for allowing people to live their lives as they see fit is deciding anything for anyone. It's the exact opposite of what you and your ilk are attempting. Though you're all too pussified to actually do anything for yourself. Much easier to beg your rulers to do the dirty work. So long as they do what you like, you're happy. Let me know how that pans out long term for you.

This is a democracy, not anarchy. We follow laws that the people we elect put in place. When we decide someone is no longer suited to make decisions for us, we vote them out. You thinking you can decide which laws you want to follow and which you don't, especially in the context of a global pandemic is not American, it's anarchist. Is that who you are? Also, the co-morbidity thing is a red herring. Those people are who they are, and have the health problems they have. Why do you think that Covid killing them because they were predisposed doesn't matter? And are you actually blaming all the misery associated with Covid on the restrictions, rather than on the pandemic and our governments piss-poor response to it? That's like driving a car into a concrete wall at 100mph with no seat belt on and then blaming the seat belt for not saving you. You're not a maverick defying the oligarchy, you're just a dumb-dumb.

There is no we. You should do whatever you best see fit for you and your family.
I was just reading thru and had a strong reaction to this....belief? Value? Sentiment?

Like, I get that population and governance are kinda abstract ideas, but the whole slippery slope of totalitarian control leading to microchip trackers in every person proves you have an active mind.
I dont think I need to explain the idea of community. People are generally interdependent, so in addition to caring about our own families, we also have to at least think about each other's families. Because you and I are the 'we.'

I value reduction of harm/safety, so I generally agree with protecting people from getting and giving the virus. There are costs to such decisions, but I believe they have protective value. And this is a pretty common thought about this disease. I dont think there would be any lockdowns or mandates if 'we' weren't trying to help people survive.

Something just "being the way it is" doesn't make it moral.

I don't have a right to decide what's best for you any more than you do for me. That's life, as it should be. If you want to live in a commune with others who agree to those conditions, great. Just leave everyone else alone. But forcing people into a mold is what useful idiots are best at.

That "stong reaction" is called cognitive dissonance. You found yours.
