Compact Bulldog Bone

I would use some WD-40, then wipe it off good while turning the bollard. I would say take it apart and clean it, if you have another SS cotter so that you could replace the cotter with a new SS cotter, rather than trying to re-use the old one.

I sprayed down the bollard area agin with WD40 and turned it for a few minutes. It's definitely sticks at one point. I won't take it apart as it's not my device to mess around with really. It doesn't spin freely on descent. I looked closer at the bottom pin, it had a small (actually quite large) imperfection which was causing the shredding of the rope. It felt smooth to my fingertips but when I ran my nail over it I could feel it. Took a few goes with the wet and dry sandpaper to smooth it out. It's much much better now with not much fluff coming off of the rope but still a little. I can still hear a bit of a ripping sound but I can't see anywhere else which was rough. I think I'll use my loaner bone for now as is, seems to work well on my 11.7s. Also messing around with drt configurations and this was quite good, although I'm sure someone else has pointed this out in the thread already.

Freddie, the setup you picture works well at arms length, so that you can have the Bone self advance as you pull rope through. If your bridge is not adjustable, you can accomplish the same adjustable reach by using an O-rig, and still have the Bone self advance.

I managed to get out and do some some work on the BDB. It was a pleasure to use in a good sized tree, tended/advanced on my chest harness well. Always engaged perfectly. I love how the easy on/off encourages me to use more natural redirects as I know I can quickly retrieve them with my tail. In fact it's the first time I've wished for a longer rope! The rope didn't flatten as much as I expected after my initial indoor trials.

I'm still struggling with descent a little, a bit jerky but smooth once I get moving. Almost don't have enough strength and control in my left to use it properly. I used it DRT in an awkward natural crotch exit from an Italian Cypress and it was a bit weird with all the extra friction but got me down safely.

Can't wait to put in some more hours on it.

Not sure if you're incorporating a brake hand along with the hand on the CBDB, but when you dial the two together there much more control. I like to use my brake hand a bit like a hip belay, keeping it low and away from the CBDB. Best of luck!

Thanks for the note regarding the brake hand, I hadnt thought of it, at least not consciously.

I had another two good climbs on it today, it was great. My hands are already finding the sweet spot for releasing the bone, and my lefthand can almost keep up with my right already. I found it to be smoother on descent with my blue tongue than cougar. I was amazed that I could clip my chest harness into the spine and climb the tree having the device self tend so well.

Only thing I have noticed now is when the rope is slack and I want to feed a bunch of rope through (passing rope and bone over a redirect) the fully collapsed device can be hard to feed slack through. Not really a problem just an observation. The flip side is it doesnt disappear down the rope when I take it off my bridge.

At one point on a limb walk I noticed the bone was twisted in the wrong orientation so I might try a swivel at some time.

If you do add a swivel, I would highly recommend the RE Nano swivel, as it fits perfectly and is nice and compact. I do include a spare stainless steel cotter with each new adjustable Bone just for this purpose.

Just retired the hedera kernmaster - found some pretty bad cover damage. Bought a 150' of orange KMiii Max (11mm). It's a beautiful rope, knotability is great, good hand for an 11mm rope, and it's got juuuuuust the right amount of stretch. Only problem is: the BRB is slipping (badly) on it. I tried all of the bollard sizes, the largest behaved the best, but inevitably started slipping once the BDB ran over an area of the rope it previously traveled.

So, I tried flipping the spine. Didn't help. Actually made it bite super hard. Made the lower arm basically lock up. So, I flipped it back to the other side.

Last desperate attempt to make this rope and device cooperate was trying an even larger bollard - I took the medium bollard (with spacer) and over top of it I placed a DMM Pinto spacer.

This configuration is best on this particular rope, although the top arm is harder to release, feather, loys of drag while tending during ascent. I'm disappointed.

Any advice? I'm disappointed this critically acclaimed rope that so many people worship has been such a PINTA. Thinking i should've just bought some safari KM.

Btw I dissembled and cleaned the device. It looks newer-ish. Yay!

Hey Wyatt I have an elongated bollard that surveyor hooked me up with that adds a good deal of friction. if your interested in toying around with it I could send it your way..p.m. me or whatever
