Compact Bulldog Bone

Never posted here before but I've been following about a year... Anyway I finally pulled the trigger after a year of contemplating n received my bone today... All I can say is bone is BOSS! This things absolutely incredible I love it one day of flying it it's smooth on release grabs reliably and eats slack like its hungry! Amazing job @surveyor i have nothing but good things to say about it and today was the first day! KMIII btw about 195lbs with gear

Was that KMIII the 7/16 or 1/2 inch?

New to the site. Been shadowing for several months though. The info is great here. Made the switch to srt few months back and can't believe I didn't do it sooner. What a game changer. What I would like to know is how I can purchase a BDB. I'm using the hh2 now and like it but I'm wanting to try the BDB.

@AP1017; Send @surveyor a private message about your interest in buying a Compact Bulldog Bone. He makes them himself, and is the only source of supply, other than buying a used one from somebody. From all I've read, he provides great customer service.

Tim

P.S. Welcome to the TreeBuzz forum! I think you are going to like it here.

I have read all I can this question may have been asked Has anyone used the BDB Ddrt with success? I've used it SRT and it works wonderfully. But I am wondering where to connect I can remember the term but the rope you don climb on maybe standing part to you saddle so it doesn't rub on the BDB ? I saw the video on tending it with the prusik and I understand that. But I am missing something simple. It also looks like the BOLA would work for both with an attachment point on top. I have looked every where for someone using the BDB with Ddrt someone must have a system. I was able to do it with RW but haven't tied it with the pulley.

I think I remember @moss saying he was using the Bulldog Bone. Maybe he's found a solution.

Tim

I think of using the BDB in DdRT mode more as a convenience not daily bread for climbing. This DdRT configuration is fine for occasional use:

My only update on my new BDB is that I should've spent a few extra bucks for the adjustable bollard. I have two lengths of Tachyon, my Saluting Branches version is fairly new, my work Tachyon is a 200' with plenty of miles on it, it feels slightly thicker in the BDB, probably the fuzziness typical of a well used rope, it runs differently than the new Tachyon. It would be good to be able to make subtle bollard adjustments per rope. Looks like I'll be sending Surveyor a note about purchasing the upgrade parts ;-)

When you mentioned awhile back that you didn't think you needed the adj BDB, I kinda thought this would happen. I have adjusted my more than once even on the same rope as I learn what each adjustment does and it makes a big difference.

I don't offer this to poke at Moss, at all. I just offer this for folks that are debating to purchase the adjuster or not. IMO to fully appreciate the quality of the bone, you need the adjuster.

A relatively short prussic with a snap to attach to the tending loop should work fine to make it self tend Ddrt if so desired.

Sorry for this question as it is probably already in this thread, but it would take a while to go through all 204 pages to find it. What is the price tag on this piece of kit? Curious because I am contemplating going mechanical and keep hearing good things about this. Thanks!

If you have a Rook/Hydra pulley on your bridge, you can use the two holes farthest from one another to attach your bdb and rope termination. I used this method with the akimbo and thought it worked quite well. If you don't have one of those pulleys, my biased opinion is that you should get one if/when you can. I balked at the price for a long time, but am very happy I finally bought one, especially for the cleaner ddrt option it gave for mechanicals.

I don't take it as a poke at all. I made the common mistake of trying to save money ;-)

The Jam nut acts as a captive stopper to hold the threaded bollard from moving away from the rope and friction link pin. The adjustment screw and jam nut should turn together as one when being turned to adjust the bollard spacing. , this is normal. Despite the fact that I use a bit of red loctite on the threads at the jam nut, if the bollard is weighted while turning the adjustment screw the nut could be held in place and not turn with the adjustment screw. In this circumstance the adjustment screw turns but the jam nut does not, then the bollard does not move closer to the friction link pin. If you continue to turn the adjustment screw out, it will back out completely from the threaded bollard. The climber that did this while weighted was still held by the Bone, but the bollard ends up in the wide open position.

What about replacing the teardrop with a bat plate or some other type of small rigging plate?
