Compact Bulldog Bone

@wyatt spruck dude it's too cold in Burnsville to go barefoot, if you can, you're heating bill is too high! lol just moved back to NC from MN in July, lived up there for a little over 2 years.

To stay on topic- Cool mod :D

No way dude! Haha. I crank up the fireplace and let it burrrrnnnnn. Socks are constrictive. Good move on your part getting outta this frozen hellscape full of awful drivers and constantly numb fingers. You escaped! haha.

@surveyor what would you recommend to clean the BDB with? I've got this kind of greasy, dirty gunk at various points (chainlink area on the spine and top arm specifically).

Ok now everyone get your "washing my boner" jokes outta the way now. Go ahead.

It looks like it was made to attach there. I like the way it swivels in two axis. I have not tried the Bone with the DMM swivel, but it seems perfectly fine.

You're the man Gordon.
Thank you.

I've had the device for nearly a year now, and it's my favorite climbing tool I own, if not, my second favorite to the DMM captain.

Next upgrade is definitely the adjustable bollard.

And the chainsaw attachment.
Maybe a louder exhaust, some chrome rims. A man can dream, right?

maybe it's just my phone, but when I watch the video its just voice and a black screen.

Video works for me, but I had to give it 2 or 3 clicks.

Nice work on this, I like the smaller size!

Edit: don't you hate it when you respond to a post and then see that it was from 3 years ago :baaa:

I have been using a neck tether with just a ring from an old throw back girthed onto the tether. i put an S-clip from the hardware store on designated spot on spine of the 2nd gen. bone and was just clipping it to the ring on the tether. i also use a key ring on the top link pin instead of a cotter pin. i saw someone else on here using it and it seemed like a good way to not go thru 100s of cotter pins when playing with bollard sizes.
while i was on the ground today setting up to climb i noticed the s-clip some how hooked the key ring and got the bone stuck in a position that wont catch the line. if this had happened in the tree and one were to sit on it, see ya later bye.
i just wanted to get pics up incase anyone uses any sort of key ring on the bone and a clip on the spine like i do, could be bad news.
@wyatt spruck
I figure the key ring is in no way life support or load bearing. It's just off a key chain.

Gordon. I've got that rope but my bone isn't adjustable. I got it specifically for akimbo and it was awful. I have my bone set perfectly for cougar so I'd rather not mess with it but I will if you'd like. I actually have it up for sale(rope not bone). If it doesn't sell you can borrow it and play with it for a while.

Thanks Steve, I have not tried the Sterling workpro on the adjustable Bone and so do not know if it would grip or not.
I have some Eldrid 11.1 mm thanks to Eric and Shelter Tree, which works with my weight on the adjustable Bone, but I prefer
the way a slightly fatter rope releases with the Bone.

So, I replaced the stock teardrop attachment point with the DMM Focus swivel.
It fits well, however there was some play in the "eye" of the green attachment point around the pin in the lower arm/attachment pin. I remedied this with a small section of latex rubber tubing - I placed it inside the green swivel eye, and passed the pin through - which was a struggle to keep all the pieces aligned and completely pass the pin through. I eventually got it through, and the swivel feels very, very snug on the pin, but still has enough freedom to pivot without too much resistance.

I've order the small bow shackle to replace the large bow shackle on the swivel. There is too much room for the carabiner to rotate inside the shackle, risking disorientation and/or improper loading of the gate etc. Keeping some latex tubing on the bow shackle and on the carabiner has helped keep the biner properly aligned in the mean time.

There's the details on that mod.
I had this swivel laying around so I decided to find a purpose for it.
Boom snap clap. Boner town.

Just an update on the DMM Focus swivel mod.

The swivel interferes with the pivoting action at the spine. During ascent, the spine is not able to 'open up', and friction is created at lower arm friction Pin and spine. In a similar vein, slack tending also suffers due to the lack of the spine pivot ability. Descent did not change at all, nor did the engagement of the device even weighed. But overall, this swivel did not improve the devices performance at all. It seemed like a good fit, and looked neat, but it was not helpful.

It certainly was fun tinkering with this project though. It was worth a shot. Ordered a RE nano, installed it today. Works awesome.

TL;DR
The DMM Focus swivel is not compatible with the compact BDB. It interferes with the spine pivot action during ascent and slack tending.

@CutHighnLetFly can you post a picture of this keychain ring mod? Also, where did you get the keychain ring from? Is it rated?
Thought I picture went with the post of mine that I reposted, didn't realize it didn't. Let me know if you still want a picture. I can post a new one, or you can chase the old one I posted one page 153 of this thread.

Took me forever to locate that old post I forgot I late in the game I already was when I got my BDB!
