Compact Bulldog Bone

Hey up people. Not checked in for a while but I see this thread is still alive and kicking. Testament to a great product.

Well my bone is 14 months old and has been in use pretty much constantly in that time, 5 days a week contract climbing. I have had a stint on my RR running Kernmaster, I was given a length of Kern so thought I would try with the RR. It works great but that is for another thread.

The reason I have checked back in is I have been given 60m Sterling HTP in 11mm to trial. Unfortunately it arrived 3 days before I flew out to Norway for 7 weeks work. SO not had a chance to climb on it yet. I know HTP has a rep for being very static, but has anyone ran it on the bone? Sorry if it has been covered but I have had a reread but not all posts, hence my question.

I was also given 60m Sterling HTP in 3/8. They sent this out originally and cocked up the order. I was told to keep it and they resent the 11mm version. I am assuming this 3/8 will be far too thin for the BDB? I may keep the 3/8 as a regular access line if I ever pull out my ascenders again ;) which is doubtful.

Cheers for any advice.

couple of pictures of a well used BDB.

I could not get 11mm HTP to work for me, no matter which bollard I used. A few people have. It kinda worked until decent, when it wouldn't stop. Cover seems too smooth. Maybe if the 3/8 bends easier it might work?

Rich, with that much wear on the spine, do you notice any difference at all in the way it grips or releases?

Gordon, it still works fine. It is very smooth.

The only exception is I bought 60M of cougar orange. I climbed on it for a good couple of hours on a few jobs. Then one day I was deadwooding a large Cypress and right at the end of the climb I dropped pretty rapidly onto the bottom limb to retrieve a hanger and as I landed I leaned away from the rope and slowly kept going... I presume it was due to the how new the rope was and how shiny the cover is.

It still works fine with my cougar blue and all my tachyon ropes. I will try it out on the HTP when I am back in the UK.

Gordon made and Gave me an elongated top bollard and New set of top arms that it was outfitted in. Im deeply indebted to him for this and another! This enables me to climb on lines that would slip with any other bollard combination I would try in a similar fashion as described above by biggun..I've mentioned it before in this thread ,but recently with the nano swivel mod I just did to perfect my dsrt setup with the dually nano bones on the Delta link ( Oceans style) ; ) and a climb that just was awesome and I cannot Thank Gordon Enough for this amazing rugged work horse of a climbing tool, I climb on it most days in the week .I beat the snot out of them ,with my original dating back to page 7 or so in this thread whenever the hec that was ,and They have only gotten better with time and hard use! I LOVE IT!!

If you don't mind me asking you biggun - What bollard are using?, and What is your climbing weight?

Just great info. Thank you.

Hello mate, I am using the bollard it came with, never needed to change anything. It came with the middle sized one fitted, not sure of the exact size.

As for weight I am 87kg in my under crackers. So another few kilos for saw pants, harness and saws. It does even slip with a 660 or 880 hanging either. Sorry don't know the lbs that would equate to.

87kg=191.8lbs, I also run in the 200-210lb with gear. I've never had to change from the medium bollard on my BDB, either. I run it on Yale Prism 11.7mm, 90% of the time, and I've never had a problem with any creeping. New ropes are a bit of a issue, due to being a bit slippery.

I ground the spine down and narrowed the bollard on the top arms and it worked. Everything I tried short of that would slip.

That's weird....@TylerHoffman didn't tag Tyler. It looks like it doesn't register his user name when you tag him.

I don't know if it's related or not, but it is not possible for me to see his user profile, either. This is the message I get when I try:

" The BuzzBoard - Error

This user's profile is not available"

In the past, with other members, I've gotten a message that said something to the effect of "This member limits who may have access to their profile information."

The fact that the message relating to Tyler does not imply that it is something he is choosing to do seems to imply that it might be something that is beyond his control.

I'm not trying to start any trouble, just reporting on something I've noticed.

Tim
