Compact Bulldog Bone

TreeStuff is putting 10mm Sirius on the DMM Hook, in their kit! I'm curious how the BDB will handle that @ 180lbs + gear, even though it's a 2ndary load, not primary, you could still have the same load while traversing. I would think?
So no, it all depends on what angle you are at with what line. You very well may have more on the hook then your "primary" line.

You're absolutely right Fairfield! If the Hook takes the primary load, then you can have upwards & above your total load with a multiplier, due to the angle that the Hook rope would be loaded. So, it could, in worse case scenario, have to hold upwards of 360#'s (+), thanks for the insight. I'm not viewing the specs of the Hook at this time, but I'm sure it can handle the load, the bigger concern, which I can't test is the BDB performance on 10mm rope, since I have no rope with a diameter less than 11mm. This is why I wanted to splice a Hank of 11.7mm of Yale. Which I'm very confident of the gripping results of. The BDB, has worked without any issues while using Yale "Prism", & several other 11.7mm, & 11mm KernMaster ropes. I would however splice a swivel on a tight eye when attaching the rope to the Hook, since the attachment point is similar to an Allen Screw Clevis. The rope can spin without hackling your throwing rope, & I don't believe the swivel will throw the Hook off balance during use! Thanks again for the weight insight!

I'm wondering if TreeStuff placing 10mm on it is due to trying to keep drag down on a Ross or to keep climbers from having as an easy time (gear wise) working off just the hook....

Hey Reed, & Tuebor, you're both correct, the "CAPTAIN" comes fron DMM w/50' of Sirius 10mm rope already attached, when TS.com receives the kit. The Hook is supposedly going to be available as an individual item as of 3/1, so I've been told. I specifically asked about it yesterday while asking about having a couple of sewn eyes done for my BOLA lanyard. So what we do with it after that is on us. I'm still going to splice a swivel on the end of some 11mm KernMaster, to see how it performs for my own personal experiment, I'm still waiting for my All Orange RignWrench to arrive. It'll probably get here when my lanyard is completed. (fingers crossed) I'll still post a few pics in the proper thread when it arrives ! I'll keep everyone apprised of its arrival !

Now, I must say, I am thoroughly confused by that post! Yes, I am a Gear Junkie, not to be confused with a Junk Gear Collector. I have never bought junk, just awesome gear! BTW, who's Gaar Anonymous?

Mcmaster-Carr makes 1/2" long steel taper pins that can be inserted into the 0.10" dia. hole in the end of each friction pin on the Bone (which can be press fit). This provides additional support to the outboard end of the snap swivel link and does not interfere with the insertion of the rope into the arms.

Any chance to get a picture up on that?

Here is a picture, notice the taper pin at the end of each snap swivel link.

You'de the man that would know what would be politically correct Gordon, but was there a situation that brought this about? I see the rope possibly getting picked while midline attaching with the cotter pins attached. Was there an incident that brought this about? Or is this a CYA, manuever?

There has been no incident, it just seems like a simple way to make the Bone even safer. The taper pin does not protrude through the friction pin, so it does not impede the installation of the rope into the Bone.
