Compact Bulldog Bone

Dave, if it's not too much of a bother, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion in a "compare and contrast" kind of way with regard to your use of the Rope Runner versus the Compact Bulldog Bone. I apologize if you've already covered this earlier in the thread, but it's a really long thread.

Saying that "the Rope Runner is gonna hang in the gear bag for awhile" implies that you have a strong preference for the Bulldog Bone over the Rope Runner at the moment.

I'd just like to hear any comments you might have on why you think that is the case. Thanks in advance for your time and attention.

Hey Tim, I love using both Mech Devices, technically all 3, w/the Bola. The BDB has been my favorite since i purchased it, the RR is my secondary SRT, which i used both devices today on a job. Because Im not very tall 5'9", im limited on abdomen space & the Bone is a bit more compact, this makes the RR a great 2ndary device. I very rarely use DDRT any longer. Only when its a neccessity. Nonetheless, both devices are used more than i let on, depends on the tree, i rarely do pines or conifers of any type. So having 2 to 3 TIP's are occasionally neccesary. Now that im reading about the revised Bola, i may do another setup change, when i get the update.

Can someone comment on the weight restriction? I weigh in at 240 w/o gear. Will the is device work for me? Also what is the price on said device?

I am not recommending it for a total climbing weight of over 250, as it begins to slip at this weight (depending on the rope and bollard installed)

Magnum, I let my buddy try my BDB @Arbtrek back in Sept, he weighs in @ 250, with no gear on. After his saddle and lanyard, etc. No Saw! He used my 11.7mm Yale Prism and climbed 50' up and didnt slip at all, but as I pointed out, hd had very minimal equipment on his ascent, he actually tried to bounce to see if he could get the Bone to slide & he couldnt get it to move, I was a bit nervous, but he tried anyways. The factors were, the rope had les than a dozen climbs on it, and the Bone had a decent wear groove in the backplate, IMO, the conditions were ideal. Nonetheless if Surveyor says 250#s, I would take him at his word. It did however make my bud go on a diet so he could purchase one! Best of luck with your decision! Just wanted you to know that the limits were pushed, but is it worth your health or life? I think not!

I did a short climb on it today. Worked well for me. 165# and 3/4" bollard. Flattens slightly. Didn't slip, released gently, didn't slide on a decent, caught a fall aggressively. Don't know how that will change after the rope is broken in more. It felt firm after loading but didn't get wiry like HTP; stayed supple. I'll try the 5/8" bollard next time. Did a little DdRT on a RnR and it worked well for that also. I don't have a lot of experience, especially DdRT, to be able to make any meaningful comparisons to other ropes. All I can say is it did what I needed it to do and didn't surprise me at all.

It's lots prettier in your picture than it is in TreeStiffy's lousy pictures. Colors look bright and snazzy.
I wasn't struck with delight when I opened the box in my house, but outside today, even on a cloudy day, it was much brighter. But then just about anything is brighter than this place in February.

So can anyone spare me 178 pages of reading and give me the skinny on this thing?
Acceptable rope diameters?
What ropes work best?
price?
Also can the end on a ddrt be clipped in to the other hole?
