Compact Bulldog Bone

I just picked up vortex cool. I'm happy to wrap my hands around that. With its higher break strength rating . I'm presuming at my weight it'll feel a bit more static than some others I've tried. Curious which bollard it will perform best
I thoguht the 1/2 I read from trusty sources on this thread, but I'll try with 5/8 first on a well used bone , see what hapoens

Honestly imay not give the best answer on that. I run the largest (3/4", I think), but my bones were made for Vortex so I am not sure that our bones are the same. I have an inch centerline. My bones work equally well without change on both my Vortex and my Yale 11.7. Hopefully you get some help out of that rambling.

Thanks m.l. maybe I could use something like that centerline adjustment to get my 11.7 to hold .. Doesn't matter what I try it creeps.

I suppose that despite a swivel, the tail of rope would orientate the BDB correctly therefore it shouldn't keep rotating the wrong way.

Apologies in advance because I know all this stuff has been covered already. I read it all last year but realise that things develop. Thanks for your patience.
Al.

I keep meaning to try a different bollard, but it works soooo well with eleven seven.
Keep that shit up swan and we'll be meeting in the fight to the death thread. Anybody whom calls themselves the 'aborist of darkness' bwahahhahaahhaaaahaaahaaa and has a chainsaw arm attachment and looks like he already got the shit kicked out of em is looking for trouble in my book. Don't fuck with me until your ready to see the light. Darkness.

Yes. I guess I'm the odd man out in that I tried the BDB with a swivel and felt it offered no improvement in its functionality. A single line system doesn't twist like a DdRT will as you move through the tree. So from my point of view it would have just been adding complexity for no discernable benefit.

But the BDB on a bridge ring already has unrestricted 180º rotation. Why would you need more than that?

All I know is that when I had it set up without the swivel, on my Sequoia bridge ring - with caribiner, the descent lever on the BDB was always facing away from me, out front. With the swivel I can place it where I want it, and it stays set until I move it.

This is great information to have, TreeLogic. Thanks for posting, and thanks to Dave for asking the question.

the swivel puts the bone to the side, should you choose, so that you're not reaching across running rope to pull the lever. i also feel like I have more leverage to collapse the bone when it's to the side, as opposed to doing the "reach around"

YES! That's what I've found so a swivel seems to make sense.
It occurs when I'm on a long branch walk with my body twisted to the direction of travel. To release the BDB I have to reach around.

Sorry if this has been asked/answered but I could not find it. I've used a rope runmer and really want to get my hands on a compact bdb. Where do I go about purchasing one and how much are they? I pmed surveyer but don't know if he's the right person to contact.

I read through every post on the BDB thread, wished really, really hard and went to bed last night and look what the BDB Fairy left under my pillow!

Nah. I did just what Mac suggested and contacted Gordon, who shipped it before he went on a vacation. Great guy!
