It's the effect not thinking but following exerts on the brain. The Christian church has, in it's history and into today, burned academic materials, subjugated and tortured non-converts, destroyed thousands of years of mankind's achievements like the first telescope, the first charts of the universe, the written concept of gravity, mathematics, and language itself..in order to claim dominance and control of individual thought.
 
Puritans burning women at the stake. Fear of witchcraft. Deacons and ministers banishing people for sin, yet having sex with little kids of either sex.
Sound familiar or has your church effectively omitted these realities?

Let's take a more objective look at the love, compassion, and moral compass that most of the world's myriad religions can and do impart on many different groups of people. On the whole it is a good thing but as we know any strict adherence to fundamental dogma and doctrine can lead to zealotry and war.

Lets just not lump everyone together as brainwashed barbarians in-waiting.

Thats the problem with faith. It allows for the suspension of rational thought and is easy to manipulate. Look no further to the GOPs pandering to the evangelical movement. Now we have a generation of anti science morons who doubt climate change and believe the earth is 6000 years old.
 
Then perhaps another approach could be that science is a glimpse into the mind of a deity. God's cookbook if you will.

Again the problem is a literal interpretation of books full of teaching parables that leads to fundamentalist and exclusion principles towards others who choose to interpret them for themselves.

Christianity has gone through many falls throughout History. Just as society falls and is born a new, the earthly organizations can destroy themselves, but in the end...the Lord is always working to keep the church in each of us.

I believe rational thought allows us to have faith. Animals cannot have faith as they do not have rational thought. Everything I believe, science has not contradicted. You can assume what you may about me, but without knowing what my background is or what my world view is, you cannot say I have any tie to these organizations or groups any of you speak of. I see a lot of assumptions with no real foundation.

My intent is not to single out and pick on Christianity in particular.

Nor any Buzzer for that matter.

My take on the universe, that's all.
 
The Deists of the enlightenment period believed this. The concept of God at the time was synonymous with the universe. This has caused much issue and debate as we interpret the Constitution and the separation of Church and State.

Also, I believe that everyone can get to Heaven. "Christianity" should be very inclusive. You have to choose to go to Hell. If you lead a life doing evil to others, then you won't want to be in Heaven... (Not speaking to any of you in particular! :ROFLMAO:)

I heard "streets of gold and houses built of crystal" in the reformed Lutheran church of my youth. I guess then the Satan resides there too if monetary value of the hearafter is that pretentious.
By the way..humans are animals in the tree of life. Mammalian. Monkees. Mommy. The cockroach is more adept at life on earth than we are.

I am not sure what you are getting at, "Satan resides there too"?
I did not say everyone goes to Heaven... so I am not sure why you assumed that about all those that you listed.
 
Remember Oral Roberts or Tom Haggard? They had legions of believers pumping millions in cash so that they could do what (the meth purchases and the male prostitute aside)?
To buy radio and TV time. Spread [sic] the "word". Same words today. Same sheep. 3rd generation Chevy owners. Patriots. Saviors. Navy destroyer captains. Ft. Hood mass shooter and Las Vegas bumpstocker. Success and prosperity. God and country. Rush Limbaugh and Oxycontin.
 
For all you non believers who axiously await another response to this thread about something you dont believe in but cant stop looking!!Your babbling only concretes the case in cause for Jesus. Read the words you say he didn't write in the bible. Why would others write about this man in this way, the way he was as a person, so it is written in the good book what would be the purpose...of them writing this.?? What was the point! Enlighten me ,your all so wise who don't believe right, You stand on your own two legs look out your own two eyes and hear from you ears! Really take in his gospel in your mind, reread over the words don't rush through cause your scared! I challenge you to do that, I don't think you really read the words.. all of them, that Jesus spoke, I don't see how you could have.. just imagine if you will ..Pretend he was in your family like a brother or a cousin even, what ever.. how would you treat him? would you ridicule him to his face ?. For what? for being the most generous gracious down to earth person ever? Helping people? Not breaking under pressure you can't even fathom? Your blind I'm sorry. How about that Buddhist monk who , quite literally, wouldn't hurt a fly. This same monk, who may also be a kung fu master, is also someone you could walk up to and slug him in the face as hard as you possibly could...

His response would likely be something to the effect of: "I shall pray for you."

There are many paths and not just one True Way.
