Yeah, but that removed weight appears to be now missing from the side it's actually needed.
Nothing (mostly) is "undoable" and there are probably 100 ways to do this job, but like so many have said already, Mangoes should name his (ultra-high) non-negotiable price if he even wants to do it at all. He's not obligated in any way to save this guy's butt after the FUBAR now made of the task. In fact, even doing so can tend to give him a reputation of willingness to fix up self-imposed blunders as opposed to training folks to call him early and often.
It totally amazes me that people let these large trees stand dead so long in the first place. Some problems in life go away by themselves, but these aren't in that class.
Here's a thought: stick the removed wedges of wood back in place and bind them securely there, then bind a full-circling layer of 6x6 (or better) "splints" around the stem and work it that way.
Hell, even showing up to seriously consider that job is worth a few hundred bucks in itself.
