Arborist Tennis Elbow

Well, after a long time without any problems with the elbow, the original injury has flared back up. May have actually torn the tendon this time so its worse than just tennis elbow.

Yeah, I'm being an idiot and still working, but the pain is managable with Advil and I ice it at night. I go see the Doc again on Wednesday for another shot and talk about surgery over the winter.

Yup, I've tried that too Jimmy. Picked one up at the 2007 TCI Expo and used it for awhile, but it did not help me. Not to say that it won't work for others though.

I partially tore my lateral bicep tendon last year when my spike stripped out a little....i mean i only fell about 3 or 4",but when i did i reacted and grabbed my rope. Ouch!! it has been a really really long road and i am still no where near right! AManda metioned something earlier in the thread, ice massage.I like the way this feels and it give me some moderate , temporary relief.Fill a paper or styrofoam cup with water, about half to 2/3 of the way then freeze it. Peel a couple of inches off the bottom and voila! ice cup for massage.now just used quick circular motions all over that bad boy......keep in mind though you only want to do about 6-8 minutes because the ice is directly on the skin!
I have also been seeing a massage therapist on a regular basis and it is helping with a variety of muscular ailments!!!

Ice massage is the cat's A$$! I need to take better care of my body... Gonna go call my Ice Massage Therapist right now LOL! Gotta get my wife to do this on a more regular basis!

Thanks for asking Jimmy. It’s funny that you mentioned this, as my elbow has been getting steadily worse the last few weeks, since the last time that I posted about it.

I re-injured it a few months ago rolling a large log out of the way for the chipper and felt a popping, burning sensation. I knew that this time it was more than just chronic tendonitis. The elbow swelled and turned black and blue, which indicates a torn (or at least partially torn) tendon.

Went to the doctor and had another cortisone shot (the 4th one for that elbow). I iced the crap out of it and kept it wrapped with a brace while doing tree work. The pain and swelling diminished slightly, but I could tell that there was something wrong.

Pain, swelling and the black and blue came back two weeks ago and I finally said enough is enough. Went to see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in elbows and he ordered an MRI. He also said no more cortisone shots. I had the MRI done last Friday and I go in to see the surgeon tomorrow afternoon for the results.

If he recommends surgery, than I will have it done this November, when I get back from the TCIA Expo.

I’ll let you guys know what happens tomorrow

Man that stinks bro.I was hoping you would say its all better now.Ive had some problems with my left arm for months but its tolerable now.It just sucks getting older,I actually have pain in my big toes from jiuJitsu and have to tape them sometimes.I think thats also why my arm hurts I didnt tap and some big dude snapped my elbow.I hope you get better man and will keep your elbow in my prayers,i know its really frustrating when things effect your ablity to work your best.

Yeah, not good news. MRI revealed a torn tendon and bone spurs that just keep ripping the tendon.

Surgery is now scheduled in 8 weeks, Nov. 24 th, the day before Thanksgiving.

I have it all. Tendentious in the elbow, arthritis in my knees, spine, and hands. When I get out of bed at night it used to take me at least 10 steps to straighten out. But now I've found "green tea", that's right. I drink it almost everyday. And if I stop for a few days I start to stiffen up again. I swear by it. I move better now than some of the young guys I see out there. Hope I'm not to late with this news Chris. Sounds like you got it bad. Good luck.

Crazy Jimmy pm'd me to ask what kind of green tea. I thought I'd answer out here so you all know. Any kind. Arizona makes an assortment of green Iced Teas you see all the time at the deli. Tetly makes a good green tea you can buy at the super market. Coffee and tea shops sell it lose. If you get on to it and want the real good stuff I'll ask my supplier if I can post her web site page and you can buy it vacuum packed from Japan. There are different grades as you get into it but to start I recommend just buying it at the super market. I make it lose and bottle it and keep it in the fridge at work. It has caffeine so I don't drink it at night. I drink black tea in the morning then espresso iced coffee after that and when I get to work I have the green tea then I'm ready to start cutting. By five or six I'm a vegetable but at least I'm not stiff.

My wife buys it by the box (teabags) at the local Asian market, and we keep a couple gallons in the fridge at all times.

5 bags per gallon, sweeten with local honey and 1/2 of a lime, and you're good to go. I can't believe I just gave out the secret recipe!
