Arbor Day

I recieved the call today from the principal of the school asking when I would like to do it. Not asking me if I could do it , but when.

Now is a good time to start co-ordinating with all the red tape that goes along with it.

Its rewarding ten times over once its done.

I had a great day today.... Arbor Day

I ran 5 crews

1 to prune trees
1 to spray trees
1 to feed trees
1 to kill trees
1 to pick up logs

I also planted a tree (Kwanzan Cherry) with 12 third grade kids and principals, mayors etc.

I think I covered all the basis in the tree industry today.

I also took a break to think of all the people who have made a positive impact on our industry.

Morton, Shigo, Banker,etc.

Did you guys do anything other than the norm today?

Today is National Arbor Day. The day that everyone shares in the joy that arborists find everyday. We can thank the foresight of J. Sterling Morton for having this day on the annual calendar. The date is celebrated by many tree plantings that will have birthdays for many years to come.

Arbor Day is not like other holidays.
Each of those reposes on the past, while Arbor Day proposes for the future.

Here is a transcript of J. Sterling Morton's 1885 speech given on the first Arbor Day in Nebraska.

Go out, hug a tree and breath deep. Thank the trees and plants for making our world breathable and bearable.

AHHH, is that whats arbor day is about :)

We have a 'national treeplanting day'. That day almost every school (kids between 10-12 year) and some politics/mayors will plant trees or bushes. We had it already in March this year. I had to guide about 100 kids in 3 crews devided. the planted about 1000 small trees for forest development. The grown people did plant some fruit-trees. Our company did have about 5 locations in our region were this was done.
