Anyone in New England up for a winter rec climb?

Location
NH
I know I am posting in possibly the wrong category but I wanted to get some responses from climbers. This is the deal, I am already getting pretty bored this winter with the typical winter slow down and I thought about organizing a climbing event of sorts. Mostly for fun but I think we could work in a little friendly competition and maybe even get a few prizes and such.Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

Yeah, i would be more than interested. Not sure where in NH you are from. I have parents that live in the Keene area. So know that area pretty well. But very willing to travel.
I have a few people that might also be interested in climbing around as well. I know a few good spots here in MA, as an option as well.

Anyone else???

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

I'd be up for it certainly. I'd even volunteer my red oak to climb so long as you guys deadwood the backside of it over the neighbors yard( I already did my side)! I'm too lazy to prune my own trees. :-P Oh, and you have to haul away the wood and brush too! This is sounding like a craigslist ad, haha.

15'cbh 90-100ish foot spread on it? 80-85' tall?

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

I am on the other side of the state but I am up for where ever we can get the most people to come and climb.

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

A friend grew up in Northwood, NH. His parents bought a whole lot of Saddleback mountain back in the '70s when land was inexpensive. They then donated lots of acreage to a state wildlife area. They had a lot of ice storm damage at their home there. Maybe I'll head North to this climb and then stop by there and do some cleanup for them. Let me know if you get a date settled. I may have a few 'prizes' to add in as I am splicing up a bunch of tenex into bridge extensions and whoopies and ...

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

Now I am getting excited!! I was thinking of having a couple of demonstrations of a few different techniques, anyone want to show us your srt set-up? Also anyone want to loan us an aerial rescue dummy? A little help with a good location with some good sized legal to climb trees would be great also. As of right now this is an informal event but if anyone with NEISA or state arborist associations want to get involved lets do this! Of course we are moving ahead with some thing, I am thinking in mid February one way or the other.

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

I will gladly give a demo on my SRT climbing.

I have a system that not a lot of people my be familiar with.

I also have access to the City Parks in Concord, NH where we are planning on hosting a rigging workshop sometime in Apr. in association with the NH Arborists Association, more info about this worhshop will be coming.

Many large sized trees with a great location too. If you want, I can get in touch with the City when you have a set date.

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

Alright we have a location and at least one able bodied climber ready to give a demo! Concord sounds great Chris! I was thinking of scheduling a weekday for the event towards the end of January beginning of February. Any thoughts?

Anyone want to a little demo with a grcs? I have never seen it in live action and would love to, I think alot of guys would! I know someone is out there just waiting for this chance to show this thing off!................ Also I was thinking of an aerial rescue demo removing a guy who has been hurt using srt who can not be simply lowered from the ground, Any takers?

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

Concord would be great, I'm constantly up in the Exeter/Stratham area anyways helping out a buddy who picks me up some tree work through his landscape biz, might be able to rope him into climbing too.

Jeff L, you still working for C L Frank?

Yeah, I'm still at CL Frank, whos this? Anyone I know by chance?

I've got the gear to set up a zip line too, all fresh out of the box, if it doesnt see any rigging action in the mean time I could bring that along to play with too. :)

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

NH sounds good to me, Concord isn't that bad at all. Are we looking to do a mini- competition, and run a few events. I know this can get hard with finding judges and all. I like the idea of climbing around rec style, and having certain people demo their climbing styles and allow others to try it.
I am very interested in the GRCS and getting some exposure to that. So if anyone is available

Now lets lock down a good date here!!!! Thoughts.

The mini comp thing is fast disappearing the rec climb however is looking good I am going to throw a date out there say.........Friday the 29th of January.........what do you guys think? Anyone else with demos you would like to show speak up, lets make this a jam packed day of climbing and learning but most of all (safe) fun. I will bring a couple of stop watches in case any one wants to do a little footlock competition or just see what they can do.

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

Fridays are good for me in general, going to go ahead and say that it works for me at least.

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

Chris can you do the 29th? Royce? I will spread the word as soon as I get a solid ok from you guys to my non Buzzer friends.

Re: Anyone in New England up for a winter rec clim

The 29th is good for me. I need a little vacation from the daily grind.
