8mm vs 10mm prusik cord

I have a 8mm x 32inch armorpurss prusik with sewn eyes, works great, one big issue, once I load it a few times, I can descend without a problem, but pulling my rope thru it when I go up is VERY hard, takes 30-40 pounds, im using it on 11.5mm samson velocity, anyone think a 10mm prusik cord would help? also, would a softer cord help stop it from locking up when I pull my rope thru

SRT or DdRT?
What's the hitch?
What are you tending it with?
ddrt, any hitch, it makes little to no difference (for me anyways), and im tending with either my hand, or a carabiner clipped to the one connecting the hitch to my harness

8mm cord should be ideal on any 11.Xmm double braid. Answer Tuebors questions and we'll go from there.

Edit: looks like we posted at the same time...

First thought, you need a pully. Second thought, hitches make a HUGE difference, which have you tried?
I do need a pulley, its on my list of things to get, ive tried an english prusik, offset prussik, VT, XT, distel, and a few others I cant think of off the top of my head, they all get stuck

I really can't imagine a properly tied and dressed VT getting stuck with or even without a pully if you're hand tending it properly. It's a bit of a loosey goosey hitch to begin with. I can run it on 11.7mm poison ivy with 5mm powercord and it's fine. When you hand tend how do you do it? Always grab the rope below and press the hitch up from the bottom, don't grab the wraps and slide up, that just sets it harder.
Do you have a spare ring? I've tended a hitch with a small ring tied to the carabiner with a short piece of hitch cord cover tied in a loop.

Bty my preferred hitch for everything is the michoacan. It grabs very well, so maybe we'll figure out what's up with a VT before trying it lol.

Yeah, the nature of a VT makes it just open up when unloaded.
I thought Velocity was only 11mm, I used it for a few years with 8mm UltraTech, and it was great.

no I dont climb on the black carabiner, its just what was closest to me (Before someone tells me I gotta use a triple locking carabiner)

That carabiner ain't gonna tend shit. I bet the stiff sewn sections flip up with that config and that'll just lock it up.
If not a ring do you have a keychain carabiner handy?

ive got lots of keychain carabiners, no rings, I might make a little wire hook type thing to tend the hitch till I can get a hitchclimber

Use a swivel dog snap for tending, it’ll work a lot like a Shizl rope slider and is self orienting. Cheap zinc one is maybe 3$ at Walmart or Home Depot.
It’s only to tend the hitch, it should be bearing 0% of your weight.

I think I remember you posting a pic of it, ill look into trying that soon

@Jonny I just threw that system together (Had a snap like the one you mentioned on my desk lol) I think you might be on to something here

I think im gonna go do a short climb to try this out

Here's 2 ideas, the ring works better and I'd trust it more and it's just one step above a split key ring, no rating at all. The two key biners does work but the ring with its equal diameter pressing up works best.
A dog snap works great too.

just got back from that climb, the dog snap worked a little better, im thinking it might also be the combo of armorprus and samson velocity, anyone here use that combo?
