I heard chopping up the roots really fine is exactly the way to go here, I mean how much ressources would such a small piece of root have to grow out again?
I did a bit more research, seems like you'd remove the parts you dont want with a shovel. If you dig out all roots the bamboo is not supposed to grow back, according to a german gardening site.
I reviewed the GriGri 2019, a new revision of the GriGri2 and WITHOUT the anti- panic brake. Not sure what they are officially calling it, but you can find it under the name GriGri 3, I guess you could also call it GriGri 4 if you take the 2+ into account.
It works well in a RADS...
Yeah, removing bamboo is difficult. I know of a guy who had to have 200m^2 of his garden excavated, cut up, and then put in again.
You should always plant bamboo into concrete growing barriers in order to stop the roots from spreading.
some bamboo also has the power to get into your foundation...
At this point it is kind of your fault for hiring them again (assuming you hired them). If they killed a tree before, you could have expected that they'd do it again. Why would you keep paying them? Good luck to you and the tree, and I'd go complain about the job.
I found every weight from 6oz to 12oz to work for me. Heavier weights seem to be a little more accurate, but the overall height I get is the same for every weight except 16oz, which is a bit too hard to throw. My favourite weight at the moment is 10oz.
It would be interesting to see what fails more often in those "freak accident" type of situations: the rope or the ascender. Most people use a single carabiner to tie themselfes in, and we have seen a number of times where ropes have opened trilock carabiners.
How many opportunities are there...
I haven't tested a lot of throwlines, but I am now on my 4th Petzl(edit: Edelrid, was not fully awake yet lol)line. I prefer the yellow, thick line over the red, skinny line, I think it tangles less. I once ordered some "Marlow" throwline from Amazon, I could not get that to come down over the...
If you really want to get started on SRT without spending too much money, use a RADS with a GriGri and a hand ascender. It will save you about 200$ and is not a bad system for "slow and low" climbing.
The Corax climbing kit is for rock climbing and not for tree climbing. It will be pretty much useless to you if you want to get to the trees. The kit has:
-Corax Harness , rock climbing harness. Could help you and would work but it's not for tree climbing and lacks important features, not to...
Cool to see this, I think schools teach way too little practical things. Most thing I get taught might help me at some point in my life, but I will probably forget most of them. The practical things you teach will probably be remembered forever by all of them. We need more people like you.
They list the original price of a rescue 8 at over 130$... This site is not legit in the slightest, and probably not even run by a person familiar with the english language.
Good to hear that these trees still exist and that there are efforts being made to bring them back to their former glory. I hear these are awesome trees if fully grown, maybe people will get to climb them again at some point in the future.
So I recently learned about the Chestnut Blight that caused all grown Chestnuts to die. I heard that they tend to grow back from their stumps though, and that they then only get infected a couple of years into their lifespan.
Now I wonder if the Blight still exists, and if the American Chestnuts...
I remember seeing a mythbusters episode on vacuum cannons a while back. They further increased the cannons power by adding a pressurized chamber behind the vaccum seal.
@climbstihl gave me these, he gets them for free at his work in a climbing adventure park. They are nice and light, I never get sweaty hands wearing them and they help to protect your hands from rope burn.
