@swingdude Sadly most throwline is way too visible, I dont really want people to see the line and remove it. I love throwing, but sometimes I just want to do a bit of quick testing on a very high TIP.
@Mowerr Paracord seems like the only option to me atm, but it's a good one for sure. I can...
I want to set myself 1-2 permanent lines that stay up in the canopy year-round so I can quickly pull my rope up. I dont know which cord to use though, it should ideally be:
- cheap
- nearly invisible
- strong enough to pull up a rope
- Abrasion resistant
I dont know which cord fits those...
I have had sucess with putting WD40 into my old carabiners and then oiling them, it works well now. Be sure to let the WD40 dry for a couple of hours, maybe even rinse it out. Then put the oil, wipe of the excess and be sure to not have any on the outside. If dirt and grime start building up...
Your flipline will probably catch you when you fall, try rappeling with it on and you'll see what catches and what doesn't. This of course depends on the stem diameter too, so you might slide down a couple of feet/inches until you hit the next branch.
On a different note: it seems as though we...
I'd say its hard to give a specific diameter at which a tree stops being unsafe. A rule of thumb for your TIP diameter is that it should always be bigger than your biceps, I'd apply this to the stem as well.
Now it's difficult to say how this changes on long, skinny trees, but if the tree starts...
Does anyone here have experience with 11mm Teufelberger Patron treeAccess? I'm thinking of getting a length of it for SRT rec climbing, it seems like a very reasonably priced rope with good charasteristics. Would you guys recommend it?
Am I rightfully worried about the safety of a throwhook? I'd not trust one to do a traverse where a failure would be catastrophic. The most I'd be ok with as far as throwhook usage goes would be for work positioning on limbwalks or double stems.
Good idea, but I'd never open a loaded Life support carabiner in the first place, I have a lanyard for a reason. I would also advise you to not do that. I could see myself using this for other things though, thanks for sharing this!
I tried out @climbstihl 's akimbo (which might be the first ever one imported to Germany!) and his rope walking setup out today, It's amazing how fast you can ascend with it, especially comparing it to a RADS. I'd love to own one, but I dont think that's happening for the next few years...
The...
They are reasonably durable, but I'd imagine they would not hold up for more than a couple of weeks of Heavy work use, I'd say they last about as long as normal work gloves.
I'm a purely rec climber, but the thought of a tree worker with a sawzall just feels... wrong. They are more of a general tool than a tool intended for treework, and the battery powered ones haven't been around for that long. I used one for gardening last year because it was the easiest, safest...
I'm probably from not your main group of interest, but I as a fairly new rec climber throw accurately to about 50-70ft and can throw a max. of about 80ft.
