    No Crane No Problem

Flex... I have been a slacker and have not put together a video from that behemoth of a tree. It's only on my flickr site.

    #Manintree Seattle story

I heard about the excitement five hours after he climbed the tree. Here's why it went viral.... over 54000 tweets, leaving Bernie Sanders in the dust http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/manintree-why-it-went-viral/

    No Crane No Problem

Got this response on another forum: I wonder if he knows he's holding the saw wrong - left handed instead right. He's right over top of the bar. To which I replied: "Yawn. That would be me, buzz.... and I've been an arborist for over 40 years. I think I know how to run a saw..... but the...

    THE TREE HOUSE

BUMP!!!!!!!!!!! Better late than never, you say? I dunno about that. It's almost 13 years since this awesome event transpired. Here's a brief slide show from 2 rolls of print film, which I finally scanned, 4 4x6 prints at a time, and then edited each one to its own file. Took a few hours. The...

Who (or who's dad) remembers this bad boy?

Cool stories and thread. Nice of you digging out those two and offering them, Tobe. I started climbing in 1975. We used the Homelite Super EZ Automatic....Nice saw if it would hold together, but heavyish and rear handled. Then, at the second employer, they had 020's, but early on, there were...

    Jonsered 2139t feedback

The important parts of the saws are the same. Easy to change the filter systems. That said, the foam filter is as good or better than the mesh design. IN fact, I've had many 335/338's over the last 20 years, and they usually came with the foam design. It works fine as long as it is installed...

    Jonsered 2139t feedback

I still have four 338's, all with muffler mods, which gives them more torque than a 200/201 and as much and sometimes more cutting speed. Reliable as well. Lighter than the new 540..... As I have those four plus two 192T's, I haven't bothered to upgrade to the 540......

    Saw Modz

That's too much. Put the deflector back on, after carefully dremeling it open..and bending it a bit. That will also deflect the exhaust down and away. I have run 192's for years--gutless until the muffler is opened up.

    Saw Modz

They've not changed the 335/338 muffler design since the saw debuted in ~1996. I had one of the very first, back when they were horrible. This old, poorly focused image shows where a 9/16th i.d. tube should be brazed to the muffler. That's the proper size. I think I have an extra muffler that...

    Live structural tree failure study.

To make it easier on the neck, I rotated and enhanced a couple of the images. Lots of interesting discussion. I will only add that one reason why dead trees, even leaning ones, stand for quite some time, is that the tree's weight is considerably reduced from when it was alive... and, it has...

    Handsaw choices

Corona isn't the same company it used to be. Samurai took over the technology. I like the 13" Ichiban... very very similar to the Zubat... impulse hardened tapered blade design, long life. Same handle that the old Coronas used to have. You can be aggressive and not break saw blades. Just don't...

    video of the year

That was merely a retrieval line, and nicely set up with a pinto pulley to help it to run free

    Mitts again...

I didn't know you have a Mitts, Dave! That was my first chipper.... as you know, it's the best non self feeding chipper ever made, which is not as much due to the staggered knives, as the location of the anvil, which is quite a ways above the bottom of the drum, which slows the chip rate, and...

    "Murdering Trees"...(Kevin Bingham)

No doubt you are, Dave! But if my freakin Hawks hadn't had their worst collapse ever a few weeks back, your boys wouldn't have that perfect record---- which I knew they'd keep intact, even after Johnny Football had a nice first half..........

    Some Footages on Sunday

No, you were seeing his lifeline. He was butt hitching, and when the far too large of a top was snubbed off without letting it run, the sling broke.

    death in raleigh nc

That's awful. Some images here show what appears to be a codominant failure. http://abc11.com/685278/ We all need to do our best to do pre-climb inspections.... each tree is similar to a mechanical structure...and many are not optimal. Be safe out there.
