The new Petzl Basic ascender is smaller, lighter, thinner, 8-11mm.
This video is a subjective comparison of the 'new' vs. the 'old' Basic.
Upon further evaluation:
Climbed with it rigged as a knee ascender on 11mm Blaze ... worked fine, IMO.
The 1/2" (13mm) line did work BUT NOT RECOMMENDED...
FWIW: Just a thought on the subject of 'isolating' for a Bowline. It's NOT necessary to isolate to cinch for a pull-line or SRT. In fact, sometimes, it's good to cinch around several branches ... especially in thin, crowded tops. Check out the bottom right photo on page 72 of Jerry's...

I used to use a delta all the time but his trick is faster + safe = better.
Thanks, Great point Dave! Though it is harder to "nose" a triple-lock - still, it is a valid concern.
Another thought about "wide" setups for SRWP, I've been using HMS biners because they are specifically designed to take wider loading at the top.
David, thanks for bringing that ring off the boat and into the trees.
GOOD JOB!

Still, great innovation ... can't wait to see what's next ... keep up the good work, man...

Tony, this is a good topic for discussion and deserves a dedicated thread. The ideas being suggested here will be missed by many as it is just a thread on the Hitch Hiker.

Love the RIG for removals. The RIG & gaffs are best for the few removals I have to do. RIG goes on at the base and stays on though out the work. But, if I have to redirect, it's the easiest. Works on every rope I've got, from soft FAT 12strand XTC13 to hard 24strand HTP11. Pruning...
