Agreed, It’s not about laziness it’s about safety. Climbing is way more badass and fun, of course. Also necessary. But it’s not for everyone and boy are there a fuckton of trees to care for and messed up ones to remove. Location is something to consider. I.e what the trees are like in your area...
You have let all of the other input (lots of said input is from very seasoned individuals) from this thread fly way above your head in the name of self validation. I must exit. I wish you luck with your rope search.
Definitely don’t top it and I’m not sure a crown reduction will do much good here. Crown reduction is to reduce risk of failure. It’s not exactly gonna lower the height of the tree, will just thin the top essentially.
I will generally lift a river birch pretty high comparatively. They seem to respond okay and look nice. If you want to sell removal and planting, find a way to mention the removal will eliminate the mess :b probably my biggest selling point with river birch, pruning or removal.
Sorry to poke lol but

Nobody on this site settles for subpar rope options. The combinations of ropes and devices out there are chosen for good reason.
Yes, I ordered a 5ft sample from Rope.com, and I was...
I was thinking about this the other day. The only thought I had was if one bridge were to fail without warning, sorta like the incident somewhat recently with that ancient self abrading bridge. Probably not relevant anymore. Just use proper rope for the bridge. I choose two separate bridges. 2nd...
I guess I should say, the Stihl 1/4” they carry locally here preboxed. Had those safety rakers. I don’t recall the exact specs on that one and I ditched it. Panther chain was the stuff from monkey beaver. 12” bar.
The most notable species probably would have been green ash at the time if you...
Meh, always a tough conversation to have as a tree lover. Trees have a lifespan tho. Wouldn’t take a chance with a Norway maple unless it had real significance
Simple muffler mod, remove limiter caps. Did the 1/4 inch pitch conversion n it’s crazy how much of a difference that makes. Gotta use the panther chain tho. It’s a bit more flimsy, but the Stihl 1/4 pitch chain in stores basically negates the conversion. Doesn’t cut well. But with the panther...
Nice and loosely tied sticht hitch on mine with like 5.5ft of 8mm marlow viper on marlow Vega w/ spliced eye. Would prefer thinner rope with a sewn eye, the fatness near the splice prevents you from getting your hitch right up on the hook. I ascend it all the time, tends great. Just don’t let it...
Had a pretty rough Covid awakening for myself this past couple weeks. Wife works at a preschool so she has a higher level of exposure but so far her, myself, and our one year old have evaded it. Wife started to have scratchy throat, stuffy nose, General fatigue last Tuesday. Next day I’m...
Your intentions for easy open are clear but nonetheless I will speak. @Tom Dunlap posted his lanyard a long time ago where he uses an isc carabiner with a swivel. The rope goes thru the swivel to tend, then the two eyes of hitch cord are tied to the bottom of the carabiner near the swivel and...
It says online to not use chords longer than 26” with the fix shorty tether which is 9”. Attaching to the top hole leaves this tether a similar overall length to the fix tether. I’d go 24”. Something to keep in mind tho, 24” doesn’t seem to always be 24”. I’ve never measured but I have the...
The wrench doesn’t add so much friction that it tweaks the angle on descent, it stays nice and evenly loaded. Your bodies weight on the two legs of hitch chord still seem to guide the whole device and keep it aligned.
I’ve tried to move away from the wrench multiple times, always come back and...
Be careful with that, technically a triangle of death (or so it looks to me) and you’re side loading that right stem at a prime lever point. On a dead ash.
Google triangle of death in rock climbing in regards to anchor building
