There’s a lot I could say in response to that comment, but since I’m not one to hide my opinions too much, I’ll give the dead horse another whack.
Climbing without a helmet is downright foolish. I’ve been working in trees 19 years, and have had more than one wallop on the head from something above me. Never once has it been something I was rigging. Nor have I ever even been knocked on the noggin by something I was cutting. More often, something was knocked loose by my just being in the tree, or under it. I won’t walk under a tree without head protection when I am working, much less climb one. Something hits me and knocks me out while I’m up there, it will be a long wait for the fire department to drag my rear end back down to the ground.
As for chainsaw pants, I don’t wear those in the air, but most of my climbers and all my ground crew do. In the air I see it is a personal choice, since a leg cut is quite unlikely, but it’s still a good idea. A hard hat though is a necessity.
And with that, I shall cease from any more kicks to the deceased equine. It has galloped its last.
