Yeah, no knots planned for this. Want to make the two loops on the left (less the knots). Actually found a place to order some Ocean Vectran 6mm.... no idea if it is real so will just have to wait to see if it shows up. It was double the price of the 5mm NE cord so not sure if it was worth it.

Thank you both, that looks like it. Want to try and sew a few thimble loops with it. Will post pics after materials arrive and I get it done.

    Fid for Brummel?

I have a fid similar to that and use it for hollow braids. I like it. You may prefer the larger version, I use the lager version more frequently. Mine are from Wesspur "stainless splicing fids"

Driving Class B CDL Truck with out CDL

Can you buy the CDL truck and have it de-rated or registered for less than 26K? Sadly, only first class citizens get away with not following laws in this country. What difference does it make. The time to get a CDL was before Jan 2022. The feds toook over the process. Used to be a lot...

    Show off them splices

Thank you. I have sold a few, but generally just make them as gifts for people. Plenty of cheap cheap crimped rope leashes available so it takes a special person thats willing to pay for material, let alone time.

    Favorite soft shackle video?

Finally got around to making a more robust jig. Would probably do it a bit differently next time but this one will do for now and used scrap materials. I do the first knot setting in the closed configuration, massage with a mallet, then tension in the open configuration.

    Hollow Braid For Soft Fid

I insert the core first because it tends to hold itself in place while I mess with the cover. I did receive the samples of the dyneema chafe sleeve and either I am doing something wrong or they dont work well. May try some of the cheaper expandable sleeving used for wire/cable protection.

Attempt #2. Less work when using shorter stitch length... Broke the needle once and thread a few times when trying to bury the lock stitch knot inside the core. Going forward, my strategy will be to intentionally stop and tie the ends together as soon as I start to see the thread fray. First...

Mechanical Advantage Kits- the Tom Hoffman U- Rig Kit, or something else?

I Watched Tom's videos when he posted them and wanted to build one since. Posted in this thread back in 2016..... Finally got one assembled. Still some fine tuning and practice is needed. Plan is to splice some 8mm Ocean Poly and 10mm Icetail E2E. Any leads on where I can find a RockO with...

    Documenting my hand-sewn eye process

I came here looking for Ocean Vectran then stayed for the sewn eyes. Materials collected. Plan is to do a sewn eye in 10mm Sterling HTP for DIY U-Rig.

    Favorite soft shackle video?

Not sure this is even worth the effort but I have been playing around with tensioning the knot. I get the knot tight except for two sections around perimeter. May try burrying the tails before tensioning to see if this helps. This jig version was not up to the task. Will make a stronger...

    Hollow Braid For Soft Fid

Thanks Brocky. I ordered a few feet of each to try. This was the video I watched. Looking around on Yale's website, I wonder if what they used in the video was a "Yale Grip" .pdf at bottom of page. https://www.yalecordage.com/splicing-and-instructions/

    Hollow Braid For Soft Fid

Saw one used in a video and want to give it a try. Any recommendations on where to start for selecting a hollow braid material that works well in this application? Would be nice if it was offered in several sizes. Plan is to try on 3/8”-1” sized DB. I know D-Splicer makes a few sizes but would...
