    Jacking over a spar

My guess is that they thought that because the jack wasn’t pushing the tree in the right direction, they needed to cut more of the hinge until oops!

    Man killed by falling branch

Very sad to hear. 21 is the prime of life, in my opinion. I had a large dead branch dislodge from a pine as we were lowering a smaller Sweetgum from it. The branch was a little larger diameter than a baseball bat and it struck the top right edge of my petzle helmet. It took my glasses off my...

On second thought, I think I’ll plant the largest Silver Maple that the nursery has to offer. My clients seem to think that is the best option. ;)

I already have a Pecan off to the left side of my house in that picture. Plus I’ve heard that it’s best not to plant the same species in another tree’s former location. Nematodes and a depletion of specific nutrients, not to mention species specific diseases.

Me three. But my favorite pecan blew over on my house. So, I’m planning on planting Live Oaks in it’s place. :)

Yes indeed. I like to think of them as natural cabling.

Crane collapse during a tree removal:

How about just probe where you need to. Think about how much better it would have been if this company had probed for a tank where they intended to drive/park their rig. Most tanks are within fifteen feet of the house, although I have seen some crazy exceptions.

Crane collapse during a tree removal:

Most tanks can be located with a probe.

Crane collapse during a tree removal:

I worked a job where a plumber purchased a foreclosure. He was in the process of installing a new septic system because a toilet kept backing up, even though he thought he had found the tank. Turned out there were four separate tanks and who knows how many systems!

    Poplar Sapling snapped in half

It’s a brittle species to begin with. I hope you are not planting it near a house?

Do you always wear your helmet?

I am pretty consistent at wearing my vertex vent while climbing and most cutting at ground level. The heat has really been getting to me lately, so I will often wear a bee keeper hat while working at ground level during the summer. It’s super lightweight, gives me shade and airflow. I will also...

    Flint Knapping

https://mymodernmet.com/prehistoric-crystal-dagger/ Here’s an interesting Crystal dagger that was found in a cave in Spain. I can tell by looking at it that they used a method called FOG (Flake Over Ground). They meticulously ground the blade into shape and then pressure flaked the knife edge...

    Flint Knapping

Danish daggers are probably the most difficult weapon to Knapp. A cross section of the handle would show that it has four platforms for striking (or punching) off flakes. This is a very difficult thing to set up, so the knife was most likely a statuses symbol or for ritual purposes.
