Sure 10.5. will work, we always use 10.5mm at work (not for tree climbing per say) but I wouldn't use a hitch on that, I personally would use a descender like the taz lov2 or the skylotec lory pro. The Skylotec sirius also feels pretty nice, but haven't used that much, can't say how well I could...
I haven't used the Ignite Record, but have a lot of experience with the old Record, which doesn't look like it's much different. You can compare it to a rock climbing harness comfort wise, although a relatively comfortable one, save for bigwall harnesses. I have a singing rock dome that is more...
Not a fan of a tether, both because of added length, and it defeats the purpose of getting the positioner, I need to replace the hitch I'm using as my adjuster on my wire-core, because a hitch is not cut resistant. I thought maybe having the swivel gives a huge benefit because of the way the...
I'm thinking about getting a positioner, I always hear the swivel is pretty much a necessity, but never why. I don't really see much advantage to it, besides easier tending from all angles.
Anyone care to tell me how wrong I am?
Works great! Not CE approved, which is important for me sometimes, but probably not for you. It's noticeable that there is less friction than with a ropewrench, the only time that matters is on a limbwalk, and there is still more friction than in a MRS setup, so the hitch behaves better. All in...
So I just did some research, Notch Geckos are really Distels. So Notch is not making them, just putting their label on the CZ made Distel spurs. Distel is the gold standard for spurs here in Germany, everybody uses them. So no concerns with quality with them. An exception seems to be the Gecko...
I use a RE Pirate on the end of my lanyard, because the gate is not inline with the direction of pull, but angled, it almost feels like a twistlock. If I used an oval there I would go with a regular action or ball lock, although I don't really like ball locks much on a lanyard. For rope access...
What about attaching the rope on the broken limb however you want, eg. running bowline, and then passing the ither end around the main stem above a branch so it won't slip down. Then use a blake's hitch on the standing part of the line with the end of the line. That way you can put some tension...
I use the rollnlock on my treemotion, but I don't really find an adjustable bridge necessary when treeclimbing. I don't have to worry about certifications in that situations though. I'm getting a new Sequoia SRT from work now, and I'm looking for a good option for an adjustable bridge there...
I ended up doing the same, but I think I'll pull it apart and try making the pocket with a separate piece of tenex, that makes everything a little lighter
I was looking for something that has the single thickness of the rope coming out of both sides of the loop, and it not doubling back all the way. I might end up doing that anyway though, but using a pocket like described above, that is way more elegant.
You last drawing is what I know would...
A pocket would be ideal if I think about it, and I know how to do that in that case. My use is exactly like you were describing with your lanyard, except for a different purpose. I was thinking of a small eye big enough for a biner poking out the side of the line before. Will attach a pic of the...
I'm wondering if there is a way to splice an eye with tenex tec, that would perform the same function as an inline 8, meaning I can tension the main line, with an eye that I can tension in one direction parallel to the main line. This is not for life support, and will not see more than 50 kg of...
I'm very happy with my TM, but if i were to buy a new saddle I would get the treerex. I've worn it for a day, and was very impressed, especially with the adjustable bridge, and the side to lower D connection is easily adjustabke under load. Very light compared to the TM too.
