    Show off them splices

That's a cool splice. On a double eye, how much strength do you need between the two eyes? I'm thinking the sewing could fail between eyes but not drop you to the ground, just rattle your two carabiners, or whatever, together before you recover.

Getting a cat out of a skinny black cherry

Moss, is that some sort of double eye on that anchor? I can't quit visualize where the shackle is inserted. It looks like the carabiner is in the eye, and the quickie is through the rope! :-) 2nd question, did you drill the shackle for the slic pin? Is that an aluminum or steel slic pin?

    Show off them splices

Yes, that is probably my original eye mark. :) This is just a practice splice, the first I was ever able to get to actually work. Thank goodness this is harder to splice than polyester. I almost gave up after several tries and two different very sticky cheap boat ropes.

Thanks for the heads up. The body is smooth, but you are right; the very tip is a triangular wedge (chisel point?). Is even that too much? I have some large needles somewhere. I can easily smooth the current needle on my belt sharpener and polish it up like glass (with a rounded point).

My first successful splice. This one is just some dock line for the boat. I seriously doubted the part where the sheath goes into the core would ever bury into the line, but after cranking on it and pulling my table across the warehouse, damn if it didn't seat! Have to say it is a really...

    Why no hitch for SRT?

In DRT with a theoretically frictionless pulley (I. E. worse case), half the climber's weight is on the hitch side and half on the other side, less on the hitch side when moving. In SRT all of the weight is on the hitch side, less when moving but much more than DRT, so tons more friction...

    Covid Close To You

Several friends contracted Omicron over the past couple weeks. All symptoms mild. One (verified) said it was less than a bad cold. All now likely have 10x more powerful and 50x longer lasting antibodies than their vaccinations gave them. Yes, all were vaccinated.

    Trees from a distance

In the swamps of the South Carolina Lowcountry. I think I know it. Definitely know it if it belongs to the leaf shown, but not sure it does. There were some leaves below it that looked similar to gum trees.

    Rope Wrench - Hitch/Rope compendium.

When it's that short, what length hitch cord do you use? I've had hitch cords too long and the wrench would prevent the hitch from locking up.

Ted Green talks about Ancient Trees

Thanks for the link. We've got a decent old tree right down the road. Still, not as old as I thought it would be. Another lesser known but still grand oak near our house.

    How big were ancient trees?

Linking it provides income to the dipshit creator. My vote is to remove that shit as a link. But that's just me.

    How big were ancient trees?

It's more of a joke than serious. To me, we're at the point where often it's hard to tell the difference between a troll, a BOT, or a serious forum member. (Poe's Law)

OFR has probably earned $0.16 for generating three pages of posts. Maybe even just a BOT. :-)

Funny enough, the local Stihl dealer was the first business I entered and noticed an employee without a mask. Made me smile.

Yep. You can clearly see those who are swayed by drive by click bait headlines versus those who actually read the articles and then check sources and numbers.

Ridiculous ideas deserve fervent ridicule. Well done! Makes me sad that we're days into 2022, have access to much of the world's knowledge at our fingertips, and these types of ideas are still embraced by anyone who can write a complete sentence.
