I tapped a Maple in my (then) yard here in NC. We boiled it down on a wood stove in my garage. It ended up with a smoky flavor that did not go very well on pancakes : )
I suspect it will not handle sap well because of the long contacts both top and bottom. The attach points are nice as long as they do not affect the movement of the arms over time.

A buyer in Japan often orders 5/8" steel dia. bollards from me (the kind I first offered on the non adjustable Bone), which I think he uses for larger dia. rope.
